Dickerson was an award winning player.

I did not notice the replacement getting beat and he did a good job with snaps, however, a starting center is literally the QB of the offensive line.

Do you think this will have more of an effect on pass pro or run blocking?

Is this young man is getting his first start in the playoffs? Or did they roll a guard to center and bring in a backup at guard, etc.

It seems like offensive line is a unit more so than most position groups. It will be a challenge to develop the chemistry with a new anchor in the middle.

Do you see any dropoff with LD on the sideline?

I am very concerned. Owens problem is physical not mental.

Hard to tell. Dickerson was very good at both.

I believe this guy is simply Center #2.

The "chemistry" part should be fine. But, the run blocking concerns me the most. IMO, that is tougher to do properly than pass blocking.

Yes, I am anticipating a drop-off in rushing. Hope I'm wrong. Maybe a second less on pass protection. We will be less competitive on offense but not by much. We still should win it all but it will be a score closer.

Chris Owens was a 4* recruit who is a redshirt senior. He's played a lot this year, and even has 4 starts this season. He also played in 13 games in 2019.

Darrian Dalcourt probably is closer in mentality and tenacity to Dickerson, as well as having more upside (though honestly both graded almost exactly the same on 247 coming out of high school)

...and this is the point of greatest concern. Dickerson is experienced, and a very smart guy. He does a super job of lining up the blocking assignments and pointing them out after seeing the defensive alignment...he's a natural born leader and that can't be replaced.

This string is actually a conversation about football.

Bama has the bigger TE they send in sometimes.

Do you think he will get more snaps to help in run game? He may actually be a tackle, but I don’t recall the name.

Sark is a smart guy at utilizing the roster. Will be interesting to see whether the game plan morphs a little In light of LD injury.

What role will Waddle have?
Is he healed up?

Sounds like the moment won’t be to big for him.

Still it’s not optimal to lose your best center for the biggest games. Good luck.

So is Chris Owens. It'll be a step down but it's not like we're entrusting Dickerson's duties to a true freshman. This guy is a fifth year senior.

Respect for a guy who stuck with the program.

So many now jump when things don’t go perfect.

Sounds like he is a better than serviceable replacement.

Chris Owens is a former starter and has substituted for Dickerson and played TE. He’s a senior, so this might be his last audition. Plus, you can’t underestimate the impact of players rallying behind him.

He's still expected to make a full recovery.

Nobody's said anything one way or another officially, but guys that have a history of being right about players and injuries are saying he's just not at a point where he'll be ready to play in time for the playoffs.

I can tell you two things for certain and I bet you already know them. But here goes. First he isn't as good as Dickerson, there is a reason Dickerson was starting and on a team full of good players, he may very well have been the best at his position. I think you are asking how big a drop off? I imagine pretty big.
Second, the backup will be good, probably not elite but if he couldn't play, then he wouldn't be wearing a Crimson jersey.

Any way he could be put on the field as more of a decoy if not at full speed?

I guess if he’s not recovered, it is best to not play at all. He demands attention.

The man is a future draft pick so if he isn't at near full speed he won't play.

Switching topics, do you think Book and the TEs of the Irish can move the ball against your defense?

Some, I am sure but not like Trask and Pitts.

IMO, the problem ND has is that Book really isn’t a threat to take the top off the defense like Sunshine. Without that deep ball threat it’s a simpler defensive problem to solve.

Yes, but I don't think their offense can keep up with ours. I look for a similar score with the Clemson/ND game. I think Bama and Clemson are on the same level and head and shoulders above everybody else.
