What I don't like is Avery is easily one of the most respected athletes from NOLA and he's a St. Aug alum. His hire will impact football recruiting too.

I actually just watched a documentary about him by Southern. Saw where he co-chaired a big Katrina recovery effort. He may flop as a coach, but he seems like an awesome human being. I can see why he is beloved there.

I look forward to Ben Simmons ruining Avery and Alabama.

Since we can't in football, basketball will do.

Underwhelming hire, at the end of the day.

Fricking this.

And the truth is, so would most LSU fans.

I really don't get how it is underwhelming. He checks a lot of boxes for what we were looking for.

AJ has always been a classy guy with high moral character. I guess that's why it seems odd to have him at Alabama.
We've had one of those guys for the past 6 years.

Arguably the most accomplished basketball coach we've ever hired.

Seems like a solid hire but honestly I had to do a internet search to remember who he was a player and coach in the NBA. Without any coaching experience in college basketball, I can't help but wonder about his recruiting ability/ties. Regardless, here's hoping he works out for you guys. I think we are probably going to be in MediocreLand for the foreseeable future.

You just hired a worse coach than Grant

So a gut that has won NBA coach of the year awards and has coached in NBA Finals is a worse coach than Anthony fricking Grant? Is this a joke?

NBA teams want a black coach so bad that Byron Scott has kept a job. What does that say about AJ?

Dirk won 60 games by himself? Damn. Dude's better than MJ.

I really hope you don't honestly believe that. He has been trying to get an NBA job. Nobody has hired him. That doesn't mean he isn't a good coach....it just means he has been having a hard time finding work in the NBA.

Dirk caried those teams he sucked as coach. Those rosters were talented enough to win. But no title to show for it. The ring on his finger he can thank David Robinson and Tim Duncan.

Same Dirk said AJ's coaching made him a better player. So I guess you don't know what the frick you are talking about.

And AJ hit the game winning jumper to win the championship so maybe its Duncan and Robinson who would be thanking AJ?

He may have looked at a few jobs, but he hasn't been trying too hard to find one. Saw a video from last month where he said he now has an empty nest and is ready to get back into coaching.
