Yep.
In our last search, the only other candidate I KNOW we interviewed was Kirby. I do know Petrino wanted an interview and wasn't given one. Auburn doesn't publicize who they are talking to.

How's your, " insider information" working out that Bob Stoops would be in Auburn by weeks end ?

Mark richt -HC; experienced and affordable
Hugh Freeze or Briles- OC
Strong or Muschamp or retain Steele: DC
A real preacher counterbalance the offensive minded, snake oil salesmen preachers and a solid DC anyway you cut it
Sounds doable
Pull the trigger

As I mentioned on here a couple of times already.... I did not see one Auburn "insider" inform us of Gus Malzahn being fired ahead of time..... with that being the case, take whatever information these "insiders" feed us with a grain of salt...

I'll never forget those idiotic rumors. "Stoops was at City Cafe with Mal today!"

It's not quite there yet, but it's climbing the charts. It's becoming more clear that Auburn's BOT didn't have a plan. You don't fire Gus unless you have a coach in waiting. Especially a 21m buyout to swallow, they might as well take their time and get the right person in, because it basically left overs and transfers on NSD but they rebuild quickly and new will have a measure of success with a very experienced Auburn team next year.

To be fair, the search is just for entertainment. If you have a laughable search and it ends with a good coach, it doesn't really matter.

Are you impaired in some way

Unless you're an AU person or a rival fan (or very loyal SEC guy) I imagine it's kind of boring
Steele would be a thud ending but I'm not sure it would provoke some national outcry. People would just scratch their heads and move on.

How do you know this?
What if Auburn already has a coach in place, and that particular coach has a game this weekend, and it will be announced Sunday? Would that be plausible?
It is my personal opinion that all this Kevin Steele stuff is just a smoke screen... I would be quite surprised if he is named head coach

Which one of our candidate has turned us down?
If you don't have answers to that with viable links
No links but let's use some common sense....
1. someone backed out. how else you explain auburn firing gus 3 days before signing day and no successor named before said signing day? that's like slashing your throat in the middle of the ocean!
2. Super Mario...why else would oregon be so desperate THIS WEEK and up and extend his contract?

I'm sure it is...for everyone else. But the truth is Auburn itself is keeping their cards close. I believe all the other noise is from agents or other camps and not necessarily reality. Rumors are what get you extensions. Just ask Arkansas. I have a hard time believing they were really willing to pay Gus's 2017 buyout and hire him, yet we paid him like they were.
We may end up hiring Steele. I don't know if it's worse that it was the plan all along or that we missed out on literally everyone else and were stuck hiring him. I hope that's not the case.

In Auburn world this is all pretty well known at this point.
Steele isn't the backup, he was the plan. I wish this was merely some face-saving shite from AU people but it's not. Nobody backed out. It was the opposite, the President objected to naming Steele the coach without a search, and here we are.

Didn't affect that class one bit. I believe we know who would stick and would not.

I've seen it several times, but that extension was in the works before Sunday. I don't follow Pac-12, but I believe he kind of unexpectedly landed in the championship game and they are going to reward him (much like Gus in 2017).

Hell no. God forbid somebody wouldn't accept another job the week of their biggest game of the year so far. And how dare Auburn not hire somebody only 48 hours after firing a coach who's been there for 8 years.

I fully believe Cristobal "used" Auburn to get an extension. As in, there was plenty of smoke and he could use it to finalize his deal. But the reality is Auburn was never on the hunt for Cristobal. Wasn't interviewed, wasn't offered, there weren't preliminary offers or suggestions of offers.
All of those things should have happened, and should still be happening, and I think if we were we'd probably have him as HC by the weekend.
But they didn't.
Auburn people haven't been losing their minds about Steele since Sunday night because we're settling on a backup option. We're losing our minds because he was the plan dating back, according to some, to 2018.

Look when Steele brings in Jeff Grimes as coach in waiting with Muschamp and Bobo along with Noel Mazzone, you will bend over and bite your pillow.
Steele going in dry.
Lube up SEC!
