I understand it. I understand that is all done by 3rd party entities.

Here ya go..
Are the players getting paid or not to play football at an institution?

That part should be easy to understand, yeah? Hint: answer is yes. That's my point.

There is some fact and fiction in this thread.

Fact: Auburn hired Tuberville away from us. On his way out he said he would leave Ole Miss in a pine box. One of the funniest statements ever made by a coach, given he was in an Auburn tie and signing his deal the very next day.

Also Fact: Auburn had a deal to hire Lane Kiffin last year but his family vetoed the deal and he decided to stay.

And bonus fact: Auburn hired Hugh Freeze as their HC.

Now how can anyone say that Auburn has done anything other than regularly target Ole Miss coaches for HC?

I get the rationale. If a guy can win at Mississippi with so much less then he should kill it at Auburn.

Fiction: Ole Miss is a better program. Actually Auburn is a better program based on any metric that you want to use. Auburn has better facilities and more money and more recent success. I mean it had been 72 years since Ole Miss beat Auburn back to back. And leading into last Saturday they were 0-9 at night in JHS.

Fiction: Coach Freeze sucks. Actually Freeze has won everywhere he’s been. Look at his year 2 results at each stop. Next year look for AU to be much stronger.

While you are technically correct that NIL is not supposed to be used for “pay for play”, do you HONESTLY believe that it is not being used that way by some/many schools?

Per an assistant at a major program…

#1 thing being asked by high-end recruits is how much they’ll be getting paid. If certain thresholds aren’t met, you’re automatically eliminated.

#2 question is how they’ll be featured on the field (for pro scouts to see and to promote personal brand).

Many no longer ask or even care about winning.

Gotta love the NIL
It was bound to happen and I'm not sure there's any way to get the worms back in the can. These guys really are just mercenaries now.

From the AU boards they are in serious situation with NIl, they don’t have the money they’ve committed. Begging for $1k donations, somewhere north of $7 million they need to come up with.

You have no clue what you're talking about. You're really trying to pass of message board rumors elsewhere online as fact?

Right? When I heard that is when I started caring a lot less about CFB.

That said, the portal seems to be doing more damage to the fabric of teams than even NIL.

CHF was coach at Liberty not Ole Miss so the thought of poaching from Ole Miss is incorrect.
There was more to it than just Lane's family voting it down. Lane tried to play Auburn a bit.
Good game. Congrats on the win.

Settle down, Sally. Usually the day after the game is Melt Day. Go touch some grass and smell the fresh air

Sounds like you have proof of pay-for-play at Auburn. You should contact compliance.

To be completely honest, it doesn't surprise me that Freeze is flat-out cheating again.

Hiring Cannizzaro to head up baseball. Losing their prized women’s basketball coach over ego. Hiring Moorhead in football. General lack of enthusiasm towards NIL until it was way too late, then blaming the fans on his way out. You want/need more?

He took State to a national title in the sport. I don’t really care about it, but when you have a guy doing well, happy where he is and wanting to stay, you don’t push him out the door. Now, do you want to address any of the other complete misses on Cohen’s resume?
