I think you are a bama fan unless someone you know went to Auburn, like your parents ect. Bama has had more sucess over time and have a wayyy bigger fanbase but with that they get a lot of the fan base that teams dont like. Most of Auburn fans are students, alum or family of those.

Difference between a racist fanbase and a non-racist fanbase:

Bama fans didn't defend or downplay Ricky's use of the N word.

The easiest way to determine it is this. When the baby is born, if the doctor accidently drops the kid on its head it will grow up to be a Bama fan.

Typically it is family motivated. If you grow up around Bama fans, you are a Bama fan. if you grow up in a family of Auburn fans, you bleed orange and blue.

Socioeconomic may have something to do with it, but if so then it is a strange layering. You have a lot of Bama grads (and hence fans) who are politicians and lawyers across the state because of the majors offered there. Auburn is responsible for a large chunk of the engineers in Huntsville, the vets and the county extension agents/wildlife management people - again because of the majors offered.

Something else to remember about Bama and money, back in the day (way back like 1910s and 1920s) Bama made it a point to recruit students from the well to do Jewish families of the northeast. A lot of the colleges in the NE were seeing such a large influx of Jewish kids, the Yankee bluebloods didn't like it, so the schools put enrollment caps in place. Bama took advantage fo that and ran ads in the northern newspapers recruiting the Jewish kids (and their money) to come to UA.

Mom was a Bama fan though she never attended Bama. Dad was an AU lean, but cheered for both to do well and attended neither...he graduated from Jax State (I know). I listened to Momma and grew up a Bama fan and went to Bama - finished in 5 years. I have a cousin on Momma's side of the family that really attended AU for about 23 years before graduating. She's pretty worthless.

So I think it's related to smarts. Bama fans = smart. AU fans = not so smart.

"Bama is still the fat girl who thinks she is hot."

"AU is the nerdy girl in the corner whispering to her nerdy girlfriend about the fat girl that thinks she's hot."

"Bama is still the fat girl who thinks she is hot cause she got laid one time in the last 10 yrs."

"If we're that, Auburn is the skinny ethiopian chick having to fight for crumbs left behind."

"And Auburn is the really fat chick with 5 chins and back breast."

My favorite thing to say to a Bama fan when they say Roll Tide is to ask them, "Oh yeah when did you graduate?" I have yet to have someone give me a year.

Is it racist if a black guy calls another black guy the N word, or is it just stupid and in bad taste? Saying "Awww, poor little ni$$er got knocked down" is definitely racist.

No. But it's racist for a fanbase that is mostly white to defend its use.

Nope, that argument doesn't fly. You've made good points before, but I think you know you're reaching on this one.

Yeah, I know. Like I've said before, this is the biggest non-story ever. But every now and then I've got to see if I can get an Auburn fan to bite. It hasn't failed so far.

Maybe i've missed something here and there are auburn fans doing such, but i thought the main 'defense' coming from the auburn lines was that he said "neil"

It figures you wouldn't understand it, being a barner. Coach Bryant pretty much single-handedly broke the race barrier for college football in the south. Something like that should resonate for decades.

Definitely mostly a family thing. Bama has a larger following due to the Bear's success when games began to be televised also.

As for me, mom and dad went to AU. Grandparents went to AU. Aunt and Uncle went to AU. First cousins went to AU. Family member is a professor at AU. Family member sat on the board of trustees for AU. A couple of former football players and 1 former basketball player.

So it is a family thing for me and my parents took me to my first game when I was between 2-3 years old.

I am sorry i made the joke please dont turn this into a race war. Whether you are an Au fan or a Bama fan the school affiliation has nothing to do with anyones predjudices those are learned from parents, friends or generalizations based on personal experiences. It is best we drop it before this turns into a huge flame war.

My Dad was a Notre Dame Fan

("Win one for the Gipper"/The 4 Horsemen Etc)

When I married my former-wife in Mobile Her Father asked me "Are You an Alabama or Auburn Fan Son"?

I did'nt really follow any of them back then.

He told me "We're Alabama Fans" I said Great then Me Too!! The Marriage lasted (Lusted) for over 5 Years but being a Bama Fan will never die.

And we all applaud him

All it took was him getting his arse handed to him to do such.
