That is why I said she was not aware about some AU fans, you then took issue with that.

How could she not be aware of how Auburn fans feel about Updyke? Has she been living under a rock?

You guys keep talking about "just a couple trees dying". They were a cornerstone for celebration and happiness for AU fans and students alike. To talk as if they were just random trees shows how obtuse you really are.

I agree, but involving a person that inflicted what he did on an in-sate University is stupidity at its finest.

I'll give you that, for sure. Consider the source...is anyone surprised that Dee Dee Bonner had something to do with this? The McCarron crew probably isn't the sharpest bunch. I love AJ and he was a helluva QB. But the tats...seriously? Dee Dee probably loves them. Not a lot of brain cells there. Put it this way...if McCarron had played for Auburn, we would have had a lot of fun the last four years making fun of the tats, the cleavage, etc., etc.

I feel like no one has made clear how emotional it was watching a part of Auburn's school and town culture die. Honestly the whole experience sucked and I wouldn't wish it on any fanbase, including Bama. Then, on top of all this, taking monetary advantage of that experience seems disingenuous at best and celebratory and dismissive of Updyke's crime at worst. Come on, I know Bama fans aren't idiots. This was a categorically stupid idea.

Dude, you are dumb as a bag of rocks. If you can't understand why Auburn people have a hatred for Updyke, then you don't have the ability to carry on a reasonable conversation about the situation.

The situation is some deaths threats were made. My stance is that this is over the line. If that makes me dumb then so be it.

If someone made a threat, then arrest them. The law looked into what the student did and said it was legal.

Maybe some former UA/AU players
can come together and help this event.

The kids lost big on this deal.

But, I can understand AU's objection.

I saw them on ADay right before they cut them down. It was like seeing a relative your hadn't seen in 5 years in the last stages of cancer. Really sucked.

Exactly. Those oaks were part of the cultural heritage of Auburn. They were likely planted by Toomer himself. More importantly, they came to symbolize the corner, which has been the meeting place in Auburn since the mid-1850s. That corner has seen men gathering that would be shipped off to both World Wars, has entertained presidents who were visiting the area, has been the site of gatherings supporting women's suffrage, and been the seed of so many indelible memories for those who have called Auburn home.

I can't understand, but I can empathize.

Updyke is a POS. Bottom line.

However, trees =/= dying from cancer relative to me. Then again...I'm not you, so I shouldn't pass judgment.

And that that fricker didn't let them go out on their own terms, or Auburn's terms, is an affront to the spirit of what binds a community together. Not that I'd ever expect an imbecile like Updyke to understand what makes anyone human.

As someone who lost their spouse at an early age to cancer.... your comparison sickens me. You are a horrible or incredibly young person to even suggest that bullshite.

Nobody is saying that. Seriously, because Updyke isn't going to be there.......does it really mean there will be a huge hit in the amount raised? Is he really a "celebrity"?
