Along the same lines as that reporter last night talking about the effect on recruiting. Some people are just incapable of thinking rationally.

I made the mistake of going to tidefans.com a little earlier. Conspiracy theorists abound already.

This piqued my curiosity and I read a couple of pages before just closing out. Utterly ridiculous. I should have just stayed away.

Probably that, even though the players who died were likely strangers, the fact that they were players on the Auburn team gave most of us a connection to them.

And through that connection, it impacts us personally.

I am of an age that I was in high school when Elvis died. Did I know Elvis? Did my Mom? My friends Mom? The lady across the street? No, no, no, and no. Does that mean it had no impact on us? HELL no, it impacted all of us, some more than others.

We didn't know the man, but we all had a CONNECTION.

Just like people in Auburn, Tuscaloosa, Baton Rouge, Athens, etc. have connections to their teams. And the players and coaches on those teams.

This confuses you?

Lars Andersen is about to be on Finebaum.

I haven't listened to Finebaum since December, and I don't plan on it.

But I am curious. What angle is he taking on the shootings?

A pretty rational one based on the known information right now.

quote:

After spending more than 12 hours in Auburn reporting on this tragedy -- talking to locals, police officers, hospital workers at a morgue, Tiger athletes -- it's clear this was nothing more than a senseless act of violence. This is not a story about a football program out of control or a narrative of players doing the wrong thing at the wrong hour. This is a tragic tale of someone having a gun -- someone who, according to police, was charged in 2008 with carrying a gun without a permit -- and using it with reckless and deadly abandon.

I'm based in Birmingham, and over the last three years I've spent a lot of time with Tiger coach Gene Chizik. His main pitch to recruits is that if they come to Auburn, they will be part of a tight-knit family. The notion of family flavors everything -- everything -- Chizik does at the school, from how he talks to players in his office to how he treats his assistants to how he'll often call a player's mother just to check in. With Chizik, a deeply religious man, the idea of family isn't merely lip service.

He essentially restated what was in his article.

Me as well, they just cant get over it(ATPB)
Just from the last page
quote:

There is a known link between Auburn athletics and certain gangs that operate outside of Atlanta and Miami.

quote:

but the culture clearly exists on der plains. (Felony4, Point Shaving, large number of players suspended due to behavioral issues, McCalebb, Dyer etc..)

quote:

Why is the state press so hell bent on never, ever making Auburn look bad?

quote:

what type of behavior Auburn has covered up and condoned...

quote:

the chief said there were two persons of interest they wanted to come in for questioning, but he declined to give their names. He only stated, "They know who they are." I'm guessing these two are current members of the AU football team.

quote:

It actually makes me sick to read the comments of the Auburn police chief, mayor and Cheezit. There is a problem on the Plains people!!

Similiar stuff is being posted on bamamag by one of their moderators as well. shite like this makes it obvious why this board has become as successful as it is. Minus a couple of trolls, this board is made up of level headed fans across the SEC.

What good does it do to delve into some misguided idiot's drivel? Some people just can't see it as an isolated tragedy.

Graduated from Auburn, I believe.

I'm assuming the entire team ran a train on his girlfriend or mother at some point. His hatred is blind and all-consuming.

I agree. Let's steer this back on topic and try to resist the urge to let this thread become about bashing idiots from other sites.
