It is Pete Thamel, consider the source. This is the guy who knew he was busting the Cam Newton story open, who was rebuked for an article he wrote about Texas that was proven false and rebuked for his Newton articles by his first job. He has an axe to grind and doesn't try to hide it.
This had crap to do with AU athletics, the only thing this had to do with AU athletics was the fact a few players happened to be at the party. Ed tried to step in and calm things down, it was too late, he paid for being a good guy with his life.
Just make note of the ones writing or reporting things this way as they have an agenda, if they report the facts of this case Auburn football will barely be mentioned.

I hope so as well. The state and the fans need to move on with the hatred in this game. This was a tragic event, not a referendum on Auburn or the players. They got caught up in something outside of their control. I would hope Auburn fans would feel the same way about this if this happened to any other school.

I think there has been a lot of backlash to his article. I'm not sure how you can make a connection to Varez Ward, but he sure made an attempt at doing it.

Anyone got a link to the article? I Googled one that didn't seem too bad....

I think that's throne unless he released another. Didn't seem terrible to me but I have to admit I didn't read it thoroughly

An N.C.A.A. investigation cleared the university of wrongdoing related to reported attempts by the father of the title team’s Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback, Cam Newton, to seek payment for his enrollment. Four players were charged with armed robbery after a home invasion in 2011.
WTF does this have to do with anything that happened?

The New York Times-Auburn hatred is beyond bizarre.

It previously told the story of the incident pretty factually and then launched in to a description of the varez ward issue and felony 4 issue. While it didn't draw a direct link there was a clear implication that the stories link together to reveal troubled times for AU athletics.

Why is it that nobody can remember what actually happened and just makes up things?

This is the section of the original article that upset people.

The killings continue a troubled period for the Auburn athletic department. In March, a Yahoo Sports report revealed that the F.B.I. was investigating a former Auburn basketball player, Varez Ward, for potentially shaving points in his college career. Officials at the university acknowledged that it had reported to the F.B.I., but little has been said or reported on the case since.
In April, a former football player, Antonio Goodwin, was convicted of first-degree robbery for his role in an armed holdup.
Mr. Goodwin was one of four former Auburn football players arrested in connection with the robbery. The three other former players are scheduled to appear in court this month. Mr. Goodwin’s trial included testimony that made guns and marijuana appear to be a part of the culture around the Auburn football program.

Good to read that E. Mack is apparently doing well physically and recognizes this as a learning and motivating moment in his life.
