Now I know I am going to be laughed at for this but can one of you younger folk please tell my old arse what "Montgomery Swag" is?

I'm young, and I have no idea what it means. According to urban dictionary, swag is appearance, style, or the way he or she presents them selves.

ike I said, the city didn't develop much under him, but he kept Montgomery in the black and always made sure crime was under control. He was Colonel Jessup....you wanted him on that wall.

I beg to differ...First I liked Emory as a person, may he rest in piece. Always said as a police Chief that Emory was the best... As a mayor, he needed to stick to police work....

Seriously, he is part of the reason the schools such so bad, part of the reason Montgomery is in the mess it found itself in... He would NOT develop Downtown, was against minor league baseball (which has been huge for Montgomery)... All that leads us to the point that crime is bad and getting worse...

Bobby Bright did more for Montgomery and IMHO was a better Mayor than Emory or our current Media seeker... Strange was a failed business man (had a car dealership in Montgomery), and played on his good ole boy connections....

IN this context it apparently has something to do with long gold earrings.

quote:

He insisted that the shooter was from Montgomery because he was wearing “Montgomery swag.” When pressed for a description of that, the witness said the shooter was wearing huge gold earrings that hung down almost to his shoulder.

. Makes you also wonder why they still want the guy arrested even after letting the cops know where he was.

Sounds like he did the right thing. Call the cops when it was safe for him to do so. Now they publicize he has an arrest warrant? Doesn't seem to encourage cooperation in the future from the public.

I have seen this mentioned a few times in some type of connection with the shooter and I honestly have no idea what the hell that is...

That's something I just recently heard of and it appears to only be known by the black youth up until this happened. Undoubtedly, it has recently become the hip thing to do in Montgomery for the black males to wear huge gold earrings that come down to their shoulder.

Seems stupid to me. Guess we'll start seeing plates in their bottom lips and neck extension bracelets before long...reppin that Montgomery Swag.

..

Not a lot gangsta folks in Auburn, when you do see them, they are usually from Montgomery..(Thus Montgomery Swag). lots of tats, gold, clothing, etc... You have that look in most major cities...

Depends on what his outstanding warrant is for, I guess. Also, they may want to pump him for more information about what DL's future plans are, just to see what else he knows.

I can't disagree with anything in your post. Our point was in issues like this Desmonte raid, Folmar would've been in his element. He was a good "war time" leader. In many ways, Montgomery was better 30 years ago, but like you said...that came at a cost that the city is now paying.

I'm in Birmingham and deal with a lot of gangsta folks. None of them look like that, minus the tats and occasional necklace, watch or bracelet bling. None of my male tenants wear long, hoop earrings.

The MGM school system sucked when I got here 16 yrs ago. I had a fraternity brother that lived in MGM tell me that the first thing I needed to do was put my 6 month old daughter on a waiting list at one of the private schools here. I've got two in private school here, and I'd work three jobs if needed to keep them there.

I liked Bobby Bright just fine - Todd Strange, not so much.

That seems to be a popular sentiment. However Bright kind of made an idiot of himself during the D.C. Sniper case though.

Even though you don't like Strange, Montgomery could do a lot worse....and I think you know what I mean.
