Very good subject as you can tell by the down votes. I think it had a lot to do with losing ground to Hairy Dawg. Kirby and a few others have been able to exploit Gus shaky status at Auburn each year, different OC’s every year, the lack of offensive players going pro, techniques being taught wrong, etc. Aubie was in the running and lost some good players the last few years but lost them to what was going on internally. Am I bitching about Kirby…. No, recruiting is a nasty business. Aubie knew it was time.

That and UGA didnt even get a lead in the series until 36 years into it, neither did they hold it consecutively until the 80s. Auburn held a series lead at points in I believe every decade of the series. The entire statement is made up

Dude, you don't like Auburn or Harsin. We get it already.

I'm sure you were certain Terry Bowden would take Auburn to 20-0 a year after Alabama won the NC. I'm sure you believed a little known coach from Ole Miss would rattle off 6 straight vs. Alabama and produce an undefeated season with four 1st round NFL picks. I'm sure you knew 5-19 Gene Chizik would take a little known JUCO transfer and run the table in the SEC on the way to the NC. I'm sure you knew Gus Malzahn would take a converted DB and run all over the rest of the SEC en-route to the 2nd NC game in 3 years.

Bro... get real.
If he can make the playoffs once every 5-10 years, that would be one hell of a coach for Auburn.

If the playoffs existed in the last 20 years, Auburn would have 3-5 times. Not sure what your logic is basing off...

You all have some serious delusions about Auburn

I was in the military during the Bowden years and didn't get to watch many games since I was usually out of the region and very few games were televised nationally. Didn't really know much about him in general, the internet didn't really exist much back then.

You think Tuberville was the reason Auburn beat Alabama those times, rather than all the trouble Alabama was having that caused Shula to be hired to start with?

I do admit I thought Chizik was a horrible hire. And - he was. He was only hired because he would allow Lowder to do whatever. It worked, but you think it was his coaching?

As for Gus, that was a scary hire since we all knew that he and Cam were the reason for that NC. He was until fired the most successful SEC coach against Saban.

It was my sophomore year at Auburn and I was a student athlete. He was a nobody with a famous last name. It was a WTF hire.

Not all about Alabama... Especially since I just reminded you that he ran the table with a very good team in 2004.

Yeah, it was.

Of course some of it was. Not many coaches could've managed the chaos of that season, particularly the end.

So what? What does that matter when you are 2-7 vs. UGA? When you can't beat LSU on the road (or anybody for that matter).

Point being, all of those coaches (let's throw Dye in there as well) ALL had inferior resumes to Harsin. You don't have to like him. I'd prefer it if you didn't actually. But a majority of Auburn fans do like him. Nobody knows how he will ultimately do, including you.

9 win seasons with a bowl win, so 10 wins regularly.

But 10 win seasons are rare for Auburn

Historically, Auburn had only had back to back 10 win seasons ONCE, and that was way back in the Pat Dye years

Total number of 10 win seasons history 14
Total number of 9+ win seasons 26
Total number of losing seasons 26

Georgia
Total number of 10 win seasons 25
Total number of losing seasons 26

bullshite. Don't start that stupid shite. Every fricking poster in this thread has been here for the good and the bad.

I hate this fricking "oh where did all the _____ fans come from all of a sudden." It's so 2000-late.

Weird you think football just ends at 1957, as you continue to prove my point though, that generally it has been once every 5 years or so. So, thanks I guess?

Also forgetting 74, 72, 63, 58, 87

So, let's look at it again, excluding 97 even though we got up to #6 before shitting the bed (I would say that is in the NC "picture")

2017
2013
2010
2004
1994
1993
1988
1987
1983
1974
1972
1963
1958
1957

So, actually I was wrong, since 1957, we've been in the national championship picture just over every 4 years.

10 win seasons were rare for everyone historically. Now with 13+ games, 10 wins is not

Because it's not the mid 2000's anymore. You aren't going to realistically line up and beat those teams. You need backyard bullshite with balls bouncing off helmets and weird crazy shite that causes the refs to give you free kicks.

If he was bringing in top recruiting classes, well that would be noteworthy. Then maybe you can go toe to toe in the same type of styles.

I think you are overstating Harsin's resume. He really didn't do all that well at Boise St. I know you guys keep talking win%, but really he was a step down for them and overall disappointing.

At any rate, I think a large part will come down to NIL and Auburn is likely to get left behind a bit.
