Ever since Tubs walked into Bryant Denny holding up seven fingers, I've been totally unable to feel any sympathy for AU. I didn't like him, but it made no sense to fire a a coach who had beaten your cross-state rival six years in a row and hire a coach with a losing record. As long as Pat Dye has any influence on the Plains they're going to have problems.

You know, I know eventually AU will take objections from Bama fans about Petrino as being "afraid" of him. He'd coach some good ball down there, and if we had our druthers we'd like you to keep Chizik from a football standpoint.
Yes, he'd win some ballgames. And he would be a big upgrade.
We aren't "afraid". He didn't beat Saban at all, and that was when he didn't even have to recruit against him. That's not the point.
The point is it will look pathetic and--as hard as it is to say--we will be embarrassed for you.
Surely there's a winner out there without so much baggage. Make a run at the Vandy coach. Or Patterson. Or the Boise guy.

Hiring a coach by committee has never worked. If they already don't know who they are going after then AU is really in bad shape. That is what you have an AD for.
