Great article! I wished all future recruits would pin it on the bulletin board above their bed and read it every night.

Probably because Saban had already warned him that if he ends up with too many commits, he will be the first out that will have to greyshirt. Well, Saban ended up with too many commits and the kid found out he would have to greyshirt. So he got pissed that what he was warned of came true and then ended up with such an awful deal. I mean Saban really fricked him over. A full ride, room, board, tuition, at an SEC school with a top 10 ranking where he will get waaayyy more playing time. Man he got fricked.

Uh, being a greyshirt still allows you to redshirt if necessary later on. They still have five years to play four.

He wasnt red shirted and grey shirted though. He graduated 03' and 04' would have been the grey or red shirt year, not sure which

Exactly. A greyshirt offer is still a scholarship. it covers book, tuition, room, food, tutoring, medical, etc. it just starts in Jan instead of Aug.

Which is not the same and you know it. Stop trying to spin this. I expect better from you dude, really.

Well this new approach they took this year sure seems to be working out for them. I'm going to laugh my arse off when 2 years from now half this class does not pan out and Chizik is either stuck with them or finds some excuse to break the contract. In the mean time, Alabama will keep winning and Auburn will keep Bible thumping and all will be well.

Because winning is the only thing that matters, right? As long as you win, you can do as many dirty, rotten, ruthless, and immoral things as you want. Who cares about the individuals whom got hurt along the way. Good way to lead your life.

JPW graduated in '03 and signed in '04. That qualifies as a greyshirt.

That must have been why Philon was crying tears of joy when he heard the news.

So then why are the AU fans and this reporter bitching about this when in fact the reporter and fans are admitting that they have no idea when Philon was warned that he might have to greyshirt?

With the info that is out there and from the reaction of the recruit the presumtion is he was just made aware. I suspect he at least should have been told after the LC commit. if going by whats was said by taylor, Taylor was the 26th commit and LC would have been the 27th, ?so LC took Philion spot? This is my guess

I meant his last season was 03' so his senior year was 03'-04', like I said one guy says redshirt, one says grey

Did you see this kind of hate for Florida or LSU or Texas with their top recruiting classes and national championships? As far as we could all tell, they did it the right way.

A couple years ago Les Miles literally went to a kid who had already moved into his dorm room and told him the numbers did not work out and he had to leave campus and greyshirt. Yea.....

Also, what "hate" for this class are you referencing? Some Montgomery News no name writer trying to sell subscriptions to his Auburn fan base? Saban is shaking in his toes.

Contrary to what most Bama fans think, this is NOT the NFL and nor should it be. At the end of the day, these are college football teams with student athletes. Hell, even the NFL guys sign contracts for more than one year......

Maybe Auburn should take a look at the glaring number of kids entering the family on signing days of late who are not leaving with a degree from Auburn.

All bs aside, this line is true. It could have a huge impact on recruiting if other schools started doing this.

In a move that has the potential to be a game changer for recruiting in this state and in the SEC, Auburn presented its 20 football signees in the 2012 class with four-year scholarships, instead of the standard one-year deals.

A couple of weeks previously, he had been told it was a possibility so he started talking to Arkie. The night before he believed he would have a scholarship, then Alabama got both Korrin Kervin AND Talvin Tomlinson. So signing day was upsetting to him.

It could also have a huge impact on the field, if many of those don't develop into good players. Chiz won't be able to process out 43% of his players in 2 yrs anymore either.

Yep, he processed two into the NFL early and one of those to the Pro Bowl in his rookie year. Stop being a dumbass.
