Birmingham is one of the top food cities in the south, period. We also have a couple of the top chefs in the entire country. Atlanta has more options sure, but more =/= better

Birmingham has really good options for a town of 1.1 million. Atlanta has really good options for a town of 5.6 million. See BMH's Southern Living guide post above.

What is considered Atlanta's food style? All other major cities have a trademark style food, but Atlanta is generic.

No they don't. What would you say New York's style is? San Fransisco? Washington DC? I would actually say Dallas has more of a distinct "style" than any of the above cities with beef.

Atlanta has highly rated Spanish restaurants (Barcelona), Southern restaurants (Bacchanalia, Empire State South, Two Urban Licks), various style (Cakes & Ale, General Muir, Gunshow), Seaford (Kimball House, The Optimist), Steak joints (Hal's, Rahtbun, Chops), barbeque (Fat Matt's, Fox Brothers), etc. It has places visited frequently by movie and TV stars (Miller Union is a favorite for Robert Downey Jr when he is making movies here, which is quite often).

I mean, it's a pretty endless list of highly rated and reviewed places in 20 different intown neighborhoods and corners.

And when I think of Birmingham I think Milo's I guess.

Congrats?

New ones pop up every week. The industry has really started weeding out the bad restaurants(besides the ones that cater to people that like large quantities, etc..)

Yep, the Beltline has become a petri dish for incredible new restaurants. There is new one opening literally every 10-20 days it seems down there.

And if they aren't good, no matter how cool the setup is (because almost all of them have great vibe), they go under rather quickly. Dog eat dog world now with food here.

Atlanta is better than Birmingham, but the two really aren't comparable. Atlanta is basically a Northeast city with tons of things to do.

It's like comparing Pittsburgh to NYC. Pittsburgh is great, but NYC is in a completely different league.

It doesn't mean Birmingham is bad in any way, but to say it's better than Atlanta in anything is a serious stretch

Exactly. Birmingham is a very cool regional city and has gotten 10x better the last 5 years. Atlanta is just a giant international city, and Atlanta too has gotten 10x better in the last 5 years.

WTF? That's like saying Auburn = Momma Goldbergs? Just like you think Tuscaloosa has nothing but chain restaurants? Or like in the previous post, Bham = Milo's?

I mean, when I think of Atlanta I do think of the fact that we have the 3rd most Fortune 500 companies in the country headquartered here, but that doesn't mean I think everyone in town spends their days eating at Chik Fil A, shopping at Home Depot, sending mail via UPS and drinking Coke Zeros on their way to the airport to fly on Delta.

New York is identified as Italian or kosher deli, SF- Portuguese seafood, DC-not really know for it food history. Atlanta has good restaurants, but like the city itself, it is very generic.

Yea, when people think fine New York dining they think Rupert's Deli. Sounds good.

Again, showing your regional ignorance. That's fine, we would rather folks who think of Atlanta as only as the Dome, Turner Field, Six Flags, Buckhead and the northern suburbs stay away and continue thinking that way.

There is no way Jacksonville is rated that high. Calhoun County is what foreign people think of when they think Alabama.

Isn't ChickFliA suppose to start opening on Sundays, I feel like I heard that a while back?

I have not heard that and feel like I would have if it was true. They are pretty adamant about their Sunday tradition, mainly because they think it is their duty to let their employees have the day to themselves.

No dumbass, people do think about great Jewish Deli's in NYC. It shows your limited travel experience, if you do not recognize that fact.

Tell me what the rest of the country thinks foodwise when the would word Atlanta comes up ? A lot of a city's identity is based on their ethnic history and make up. Atlanta has very little of each. Memphis has their BBQ, NO has Cajun, Miami has Cuban. Atlanta is generic, it is full of transplants who live in the suburbs.
