Not close, IMO.

Lucky didn't play much. Not sure why WDE highlighted him. He pretty much only came in to give other players a breather. He had a ton of talent though. Same for Rambo.

ETA: And yes, the 04 was a much better team than this season's team.

Lucky and Ramo were role players. Shouldn't have been highlighted. However, Emmett Thomas definitely should have been.

And that 04 really had 2 quality bigs, Davis and Jermareo. Jermareo was VERY raw though. Brock was horrible, but could jump out of the gym.

We pretty much played a 7 man rotation in the Elite 8 run - Pettway, Shelton, Winston, Davis, Davidson, E. Thomas and Brock.

Anyway, we're splitting hairs and arguing the same point - the 04 was a lot better than this year's team.

I would love for Emmett Thomas to be on this team. Anybody that could shoot really.

Although I think there's a bit of revisionist stuff going on with that team. It was a typical Gottfried team for large parts of the season. More talented sure, but stagnant on offense, iffy on defense. That team was 12-10 and 4-7 in the league and not even in the discussion for the tournament when we went to Mississippi State and Kennedy Winston just completely took his game to the next level, scored 31, and stayed hot the rest of the year.

Pettway kind of canceled out Gottfried to some extent.

That team was only good in the last part of the season. Chuck Davis was a fricking turnover machine for the first half of the year, he got it together finally and like I said Winston took his game to the next level.

He wasn't great, but horrible might be stretch. However, having that many bigs that could give you minutes is a luxury these day in college basketball.

I just said they were more talented, not that they were well coached. The offense that Gottfried try to run was terrible that year.

Yes, but the competition (although not great) was much better that year that the crap fest that is the West this year. The bad SEC teams that year would be competing in the SEC this year.

Again, the talent was there, the coaching, not so much.

I always say Pettway is the only Bama coach to get Bama to the Elite 8. He was the coach of that team.

Kinda mirrors this year's team. Green had an attitude problem early in the season(I think he still kinda does), Mitchell has caught fire(until last night). Releford has developed into a nice leader on the floor, albeit not at the Pettway level.

fair enough, our top three matches up fine but after that all we have are role players and no shooters. I don't even consider Charvez Davis a shooter anymore Why it took me so long to cut the cord on that I don't know.

Yeah I agree kind of. Still we lost a lot of games Gottfried style. That's the difference this year, we seemingly find ways to win games not ways to lose them.

That team was about as frustrating as any I can remember. Granted I didn't expect that much coming into the year but then we beat somebody (Oregon I think) and it looked like we had talent but we just played like such idiots at times. Chuck Davis started off well but then at a certain point people started double teaming him and for the next two months he turned the ball over like 18 times a game. Absolutely facepalm kind of stuff. Kind of like last night.

And then they finally got it together.

It was Oregon on NYE. Winston had a huge game as I recall.

yeah Winston hit the buzzer beater. They had Aaron Brooks and that white guy. Sorry that's the best description I can think of.

Not NYE. I was at the game, it was in Vegas. No way they play a game in Vegas on NYE.

if pettway didnt make that miracle runner against SIU...then we would have been 1 and done. that team had some lady luck and got exposed by UCONN

The 2003-04 squad was very talented, but Gottfried's coaching was the problem.

The revisionism is astounding. I was a soph in college during that run.

officiating sucked but were consistant for the most part.

Looked like a Middle School game at times and thought UA was building a new arena with all the bricks during the game.

1991 Bama made the Sweet Sixteen. I am sure Bama fans would welcome that this year.
