Did that game set basketball in AL back twenty years ? I knew Auburn was bad, but what I saw from AL makes my believe that they will not get past the first round of the "big dance". I think if they do not beat FL, they may not make the tourney at all. AU played hard, but they need to start from scratch.

I believe you can't really gauge either team by this performance.

If everyone, including 2 of the cheerleaders, hadn't fouled out, Auburn would have won. And there is no way Auburn should have beaten Alabama.
This game was simply an anomoly.

I still say Auburn should hold walk-on tryouts AGAIN and find a 3-point shooter that can bring the rain.... even if it is a girl. It has gotta help...

Those games just happen. Its what makes college basketball so great,IMO. The game was sloppy as hell, but both teams played very hard with lots of intensity.Plus, the officials really "let them play" (anytime Ted Valentine calls a game, look out)which contributed to the sloppiness and poor shooting.

Honestly, since Alabama did win the game, this might be th best thing that could happen to them. I'm sure Grant will have a fun practice this afternoon. The bandwagon has gotten pretty full and the guys had been hearing and reading how great they are. Still a young team that will hit a wall at times. But they reached down and pulled one out.

As for Auburn, tough, tough loss. Guard play just killed them in the last 6 minutes.

We played our worst game this year and still came out with a W.

AU fouled Alabama 29 times. Of course our FG % would be down. We missed I think 40% of our free throws too.

Alabama would be a very low seed in the NCAA tournamen (if they even make it at all). So it would not be a surprise at all if they lost in the first round as they will be playing a 6 seed or better most likely.

This Bama team is frankly way overachieving in SEC play right now. They have a lot of weaknesses on offense, but they play great defense and it has worked since SEC play started.

Barbee had an interesting game plan. It was clear from the opening whistle his plan was to foul the shite out of Bama on the blocks. It kept us out of rhythm and made us play to their style of ugly basketball.

I noticed Barbee and Grant had a lengthy discussion during the post-game handshake. Didn't seem heated, but I'd imagine Grant didn't really appreciate that style of play.

Auburn wasn't to hot from the free throw line either...that was the difference maker.

Any team that plays an aggressive zone defense and has mediocre offensive telent will beat Bama handily. Bama has some athletes that create scoring opportunities against man-to-man D, but they were clueless against the zone.

Also, any committee members that watched that game, as opposed to just looking at the box score, will find it hard to put Bama in the tourney without Bama being very impressive down the stretch and winning a couple of SEC tourny games.

As for the op's commnet about AU needing to start from scratch; without a doubt. AU has some guys that play hard, but the talent and basketball IQ is severely lacking.

Not even close. As someone else said earlier, this one of the great things about basketball and why it needs the format it has with tournaments and what not as opposed to football. Teams have days when they cant hit the broad side of a barn with an effin layup. It just happens. Thats basketball.

You barners just try too hard to screw over alabama so you can take credit for it. It's really quite sad. This reminds me of the Iron Bowl 2 years ago in Auburn. They were honoring a team from like 30 years before that had won an SEC championship and on the way, had ruined Bama's national title hopes. The sad part was that everyone was more proud of the ruining our NC hopes part than the conference championship. Then some 80 year old geriatric fart behind me said, "we're gonna beat them today and 30 years from now we are gonna be honoring this team." My mother, lol, turned around and told the old guy, "If honoring a 4 loss team because they knocked Alabama out of NC is all you barners have to do, you really need to find another sport to get behind because thats just pathetic."
