Trust me - this does not end well for you. I overheard it from some drunk higher-ups.

You may have a point, if Cam didn't know then they can't punish us for recruiting him.
That is, if Cam was not present at the alleged hotel meeting (if this actually happened). If this meeting took place, and there was money talks involved then that actually will nullify Cam's statement of not knowing, for both State and Auburn.
Way too many unknowns at this point.

Link?
The only thing that is on record officially is that there were negotiations between Cecil and Rogers. There is no testimony from Cecil that it was all his idea. He certainly never said he tried but "they did not bite".
This is most people's basic understanding of the situation, but this is simply not the truth.

I could also potentially see some punishment related to any lag in time from knowing about the solicitation and the reporting of the solicitation. Especially if there was ongoing recruitment during that time and the reporting of the solicitation only occurred after Cam signed/committed elsewhere.

Um, why would he willingly admit that he tried to sell his son to the highest bidder?

Mullen continued to recruit Cam- and no longer dealt with his Dad. Cam was of legal age I think and did not need his Father's signature to sign with anyone.
And since Cam didnt know right- this should be ok?
If msu knew of talks for p4p with cam, recruiting should have ceased at that point in time. The whole not knowing thing is a different story and an after the fact thing.
As far as the ncaa is concerned they, msu, should have informed the ncaa then and there.

You and that university that houses that shiny crystal ball should be thankful we didn't go to the NCAA right away.

Read the post. I wasn't saying that that's what he did. What I said was that it would be retarded if he did.

The point is, it was stated as if it were an irrefutable, on the record, fact that it was all Cecil's "fishing" and that Rogers did not "bite", and that is simply not the case.

Granted we probably should have gone to the NCAA sooner, but if I remember right, didn't we report these actions to the Slive, and the SEC chose not to do anything about it, so later on we went over Slive's head and straight to the NCAA.
The delayed time frame may have been us waiting to see if the SEC would do anything.
Plus it has been ruled that Cam's not knowing of his father soliciting money keeps him eligible, so we still had a right to recruit Cam since he was eligible, and just not have dealings with Cecil. If we offered Cam no money, then there is no reason not to keep him as a recruit, and hope he comes here for free.

1. Kenny and Cecil were trying to get paid
2. Coaching staff said they didnt want to hear it
3. Mullen continued recruiting Cam directly- not Cecil
4. Cecil then started making calls to Bond and Bell trying to do something from his end
5. State didnt pay anything
6. Cam told Mullen and his wife "The money is too much"
7. Cam signs with Auburn
8. State turns this in to the SEC- Slive sits on it.
9. The needing more info by Slive is a load of crap
10. After nothing by Slive for 6 months, State turns it into the NCAA- Slive is pissed and starts covering his arse.
11. All Hell breaks loose
Thats pretty much what happened
I'm not saying Auburn payed, but there is a reason to have suspicion

In the SEC you have to go through them first. Not the NCAA. Slive told MSU to make a statement(press release) then Slive made his and threw MSU under a bus about by passing the SEC office and talking with NCAA Well, Stricklin and higher ups had a word with Slive and told him what they thought about him doing that. Really, never heard much from Slive after that conversation.
Been nothing but speculation ever since.

quote:And if your timeline and events are true, which I am sure they are not, there is reasonable suspicion around MSU for knowing about a p4p scheme with one of its primary recruits and some of its boosters/alumni, continuing to recruit that player, and not reporting it until after they lost out on the recruit.
