AU FANS? Does Pettway remind you of Rudi Johnson?

I had been discussing JUCO players and their ratings and for some reason Rudi was a player I thought of, he was highly regarded out of JUCO. He was a pretty good back for Au. Y'all had a stretch with some amazing RBs. (Could be a spinoff-amazing players at a position stretch. Jacob's, Rudi, Carnell, Ronnie, etc?)

Anyways, does Pettway remind you of Rudi? They have similar builds, are their running styles similar, speed, agility? Is that a fair comparison?

very much so. that's been a common comparison on the AU board. he does seem a little more eager to initiate the hits, though

Not far off, Pettway is bigger maybe closer to Brandon Jacobs style.

I would have said James Bostic.

ETA: I looked up the physical measurements for both:

Bostic was listed at 5'11" and 230. Pettway is listed at 6' and 240. Seems I remember Bostic having a little more speed, but Pettway has better feet for that initial juke. Either way, both are great, physical RBs.

If fournette was in that offense he would run for 4000 yards

That's a name is haven't heard in a long time. He is a year younger than I am, he was a very good player for Au . A good friend of mine played at the same time he was a FB, so I meet a bunch of Au players in 90-93 Era. I know CSB

Bostic

In 1993 James led the Southeastern Conference with 1205 yards in 199 attempts in 11 games. He averaged 6.1 YPC, scored 12 TD's, and averaged 109.6 YDSPG

How would that compare to this Era?

Not an AU fan, but I think he reminds me of Christian Okoye.

Both wear/wore numbers in the mid 30s. Both are beasts running the ball.

okoye was 6'1" and 250 lbs
Pettway is 6'0" and 240 lbs

Pettway is fun to watch run (except for one game)

Pettway kinda reminds me of college version Laveon Bell. Bigger back that is super physical, but could still move and miss some.

I don't think Pettway could lose weight and become the same pro as Bell, though

I think Pettway is going to be a stud in a Jeremy Hill type role within a committee system in the NFL.

The thing that distinguished Rudi was his quick feet...Pettway is more of a long strider and really looks to initiate contact. I like the Jerome Bettis, Mike Alstott, and Christian Okoye comparisons...I've heard a few compare him to Anthony Dixon as well. A better Anthony Dixon.

I'm a Bucs fan so I have watched about every rush of Mike Alstott's career...he and Pettway both do the same thing...right before contact, they REALLY lean into the defender and make contact really low...and use the contact to both knock the s*** out of the defender, and to stay upright and continue. There have been tons of big powerful backs that can deliver the blow, but pretty much always end up falling down...Pettway and Alstott both get lots of YAC for the above reason.

The Pettway to Rudi comparison going around is terrible. Outside of being roughly the same size the two RBs could not be any different. Rudi was a finesse runner with elite vision and feet that would make you miss. He would only lower his shoulder and use his power if he absolutely had to. Kam is a straight ahead runner with great power and a sneaky speed. He also has pretty good vision. The James Bostic comparison is probably the best one if you want to compare him to an AU back. To me he looks a lot like Mike Alstott.

That 1993 team had Bostic and Stephen Davis as his backup with Tony Richardson as the fullback. Easy to see why they went undefeated.

Christian Okoye

From what I remember about Christian Okoye, although both were big physical specimens, Pettway is much more of a physical runner. He is flat pancaking people when they get in front of him. I don't remember Okoye doing that as much. I don't remember him taking on his many people had on like Pettway does. Could be wrong though.

Not really, Rudi had an amazing ability to slide through a hole or make a tiny lateral move to find a crease. Pettway just bulldozes his way through.
