So they use to let some counties get instate tuition?

Yes. But just border counties. Never Fulton prior. Although Georgia paid oos tuition if degree was not offered at public school

With Scholarships, that is probably + $8,000 per student each year in their pocket per semester for $32,000.
Most Auburn Grads make about $90,000 a year.
Thank You, Fulton County!
Our kids are your kids. Love the ATL!!!

When I was at South Carolina, GA kids from border counties got in-state tuition. There were a large number of students from Chatham, Richmond and Columbia Counties.

I heard of this before. Friend of mine from Lawrence Co, Tennessee almost went to Auburn because he would have qualified for in-state tuition there.

Maybe back many years ago for parents/Alumni. But border counties were just relative to Auburn/GA

I helped a kid get in a minority education program that way with Clemson from Mcduffie county.

Is this an unusual practice? I knew a lot of Mississippians who used to go to Bama because of a grandfather clause with bordering counties. Yes it's been a few years. Got to go back before this century. A little..

Yes. Before the lottery.
But those Counties literally killed the rest of the State in Academics and Athletics.
I-85.
We can't help that we come from Atlanta.
And we can't help that your shitty approach to found an Engineering Program at UGA failed.

Anyone in TN can attend most schools in border states without paying out of state tuition as long as we don’t offer the degree at UT. It’s not a generalized thing but for specific curriculum. Most state unis have a reciprocal policy. So kids in any number of border states can do the same and attend UT as long as the degree is not offered at their home uni.
UT also allows for some instate waivers based on proximity.

Yeah but Tennessee pays difference. This is different. Auburn offered in state to a few select border counties

We do that as well but Iirc it is proximity based.
Edit. Other TN schools do but apparently UT doesn’t anymore. UT still does common market tho.

So Auburn wants to now attract Atlanta students that can’t get into Georgia Tech to add to the students that couldn’t get into UGA. Auburn’s gonna turn into second class Atlanta.

And there it is…
When one argument for rivals contradicts another…

I’ve read it 4 times and I still can’t make sense of it

I can only speak for Atlanta in this matter. It is finally nice to get that burden off of our future students that want to go to a University outside of their State. Georgia is FULL and they basically lead you into one of their feeder-programs in-State for a cheap degree.
Atlanta kids, rejoice!!!
