My take from those rumors (complete guessing/no actual info): Melendez is probably drinking the kool aid of the coaching staff (which is a good thing for the program) and trying to hold other guys accountable. Atkins is not the type to buy in like that. Thinks he’s a bigger star than Melendez. So when Melendez’ tries to hold him accountable, it doesn’t go well. He’s a star that doesn’t play by the same rules.

I said this reminded of Jovon before. Definitely reminds me of Jovon now.

Jovon thought the coaches wanted to turn him into smiling Kerryon or something. He thought Kerryon was kiss arse.

One of the most frequent rumors floating around on the intertoobs about this is that his teammates were tired of his shite.

All-American or not, if you are a team cancer then you gotta go.

Allegedly when his own teammates go to the coaches and ask for him to be disciplined, something ain't kosher.

Interesting exit post by him though, speaking of his health. Implying they wanted him to play while injured or something? What's that all about? Or was it his 'mental' health? Maybe just smoke signals that are meant to make him look better in the portal market.

There isn't any way Atkins would have gotten booted before him if that's what it was.

Atkins either done something bad enough to get in alot of trouble quick or was splitting the team or just straight butting heads with the coaches. No fight over a girl gets an all American kicked off a team.

The fact he was still pro Auburn after shows he knows it's his own fault or doesn't blame the coach over why he got kicked.

This is just the way these kids have to behave now that they are paid and there is no more excuse of just being a stupid "student athlete who didn't know better". So that public post really doesn't mean anything other than that he is trying to save his own public and professional image. He signed an NIL contract that would have had behavior clauses in it, and stuff like this looks extra bad to the NFL and other schools now that we are in the NIL era of college football where these players are now professionals.

His Twitter post is really no different from what you see when an athlete in the NFL/MLB/NBA/etc. gets arrested or busted doing something they shouldn't be doing, and then they have to make the canned "apology" statement that goes out to the media/fans. Those statements are all obviously written by their PR/management team, but its what you have to do as part of your punishment.

Even if you don't believe his post there is still a good reason he got kicked. It wasn't from bias or 2 players just fighting. Coaches don't kick their top athletes to the curb unless it's for the team as a whole or politics.

He would have been the one to get the special treatment before the others. It's likely something we won't know the truth about until he and/or the right other players aren't playing anymore and tell the story.
