I agree, the NCAA has an uphill battle. But right now ESPN is that JFF signed over 4,400 items on six separate occasions over the span of about a month. And that's what they've managed to uncover in about a week. Does A&M ask JFF point blank if he received any cash? And do they believe him?
Greg Couch has a pretty good article on Fox Sports today about this. Worth a read.
Good read

This^ The guy is a douche and has completely embarrassed A&M...I was talking to a friend about the situation, and I kept finding myself saying "at a&m of all places" etc... The guy does not fit with your program at all and has completely spit on your traditions and oaths and has done damage to A&M's image. Why would you want someone like him representing your team and university?
Whoa, slow down there!
No, he's not a traditional Aggie, but saying he's "completely spit on your traditions" is hyperbole. He's no saint, but let's not sit here and pretend there aren't PLENTY of Aggie football players who have done far worse in the past. He's no saint, but that's not what he's there in Aggieland to be. What he IS, is a damn good football player at a football-crazed school. As for the perceived "damage" he's done, he's also put A&M on the map nationally as it has never experienced before. In one year, A&M has gone from being nearly universally scoffed at for having the audacity to join the SEC to being in the news 24/7 for football news and more as a byproduct of that.
In short, tap the brakes a tad. I'm not going to sit here and defend his off the field behavior (he's a douche), but I WILL support him like I would any other member of the Aggie family.

Calm down, drama queen. Good Lord.
The hyperbole with which people act about Manziel is ridiculous. They'll be quick to call A&M fans delusional for even hinting at still rooting for him to take the field, then turn around and let loose with pure hate/envy. This is crazy

Oh no you didn't :) I know winning is everything, but traditions and the integrity of a program are pretty important too....coming from someone who's team has had their fair share of embarrassments, I would rather lose a few games than have JF as my quarterback.

What I can't figure out is where A&M stands. With the Cam situation Auburn had to do some of its own footwork to decide whether to play him or not. At one point he was briefly suspended.
Now the Cam situation was different because Auburn was potentially implicated in it. But you'd think A&M would come out and say SOMETHING.

If AJ did half of the crap that JF did I would be absolutely mortified to have him as our QB.

I don't understand either. Meh.

Can't comment on an on-going investigation.
Hell, right now there's no proof that the NCAA has even sent A&M a NOI or a NOA, or whatever they send to a program they're invesitgating.
At this point, all we know is that ESPN has been digging like they're tunneling to China - and they've uncovered some mud and reporting.

FOIA request shows that they have not as of August 5th

A&M is ground zero for traditions, tbh.

VERY easy to say when your team is sitting on 3 out of the last 4 crystal footballs.
We've had some guys with fantastic character at QB for A&M over the years. Jerrod Johnson was probably the most humble QB I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. But guess what? As beloved as he and others like that are in Aggieland, most outside of Texas don't know who they are or were in college, because for one reason or another, they couldn't get it done on the field. Doesn't mean I like JFF more than J. Johnson--far from it. In fact, I'm still miffed that Jameil Showers, a terrific Aggie and great kid (not to mention a friend of my brother's) had to transfer his senior season to make room for Johnny.
But JFF wins games, and that drives up the profile of a university that wraps up so much of its identity in gridiron happenings. So while I'd always rather have a beer with or let a daughter of mine date a guy like Johnson or Mark Dodge, I will always be grateful for what Manziel has done for A&M on the football field, for however long I have the pleasure of watching him quarterback for my alma mater.

I'm just stating MY opinion...knowing that it isn't a popular one. I do want that win with him playing, I just wouldn't want him representing my school....Cool? I don't really give a shite.

Yahoo Sports Pat Forde thoughts on Manziel (it's audio). Some of the thoughts of the holy roller bammers shared in this

FYI - AJ is no saint off the field, he keeps his activities on the down low. Given the resources JFF has had in the offseason, who's to say AJ wouldn't have lived the rockstar lifestyle as well?

Auburn said they were looking into it. Then Auburn said Cam was suspended. Then they said he wasn't. Then they said they were clean.
All that took several weeks, of course. But A&M hasn't even acknowledged the issue.

Again, easy for you to say.
A&M is starved for football relevance. I still don't think many of you realize just how monumental it was that the school elected to jump to the SEC--away from texas and the other in-state schools. That move put into stark relief just how serious A&M is about becoming a year-in, year-out force to be reckoned with, not just a group of nice guys on the gridiron. It's an ideal to strive for, but at the end of the day, like Coach Sumlin says, the best players play, and you have to deal with the extracurricular issues as best as you can.
And let's not pretend like your program is a bastion of moral goodness for football players. Plenty of Bama players get into worse shenanigans than JFF, but they're not under the same microscope. Could Johnny be smarter? Yeah, and I wish to God that he would. But at the end of the day he's mostly a dumb kid who parties too hard and is surrounded by enablers. I'm not about to shed a tear in sympathy for the rich little brat, or try to convince you to "please, please walk a day in his shoes," but to insinuate that Aggies everywhere should be "mortified," is asinine.
