As objectively as possible...where does college baseball stand in importance?

I absolutely agree that baseball is third and whatever is fourth is a distant fourth. I'd rather see my team win a CWS than anything in softball or tennis or golf.
But it seems clear to me that while baseball is way out in front of whatever is fourth, basketball is way out in front of college baseball. Baseball is unique in that it has a very large, mature minor league system which means players can enter the professional sport without going the college route. The gap between MLB and college baseball is vast - much wider than with basketball or football.
For that reason, I would think there is a "Big Two" sports in college, then baseball, then the others. If you disagree, can you make a case for college baseball being listed among football and basketball?

It depends on how you measure it, of course. But if we didn't already consider baseball such a major sport because of its history in this country, and you looked strictly at its emphasis in the college game, it seems pretty far back. You certainly couldn't use attendance/money to make a case for it, because basketball is WAY out in front on that basis.

Me either! Who cares what gets aired on TV and what doesn't. That doesn't mean anything. Baseball is right there with basketball IMO.

Baseball isn't even #3 at some SEC schools right now.

Impossible to be objective about these things. That's like asking an LSU fan to acknowledge a Razorback, or vise versa.
Baseball is more important to me than basketball, but I think I'm an outlier there among our fan base.

It may seem that way on this board...but it's pretty much just College football, college basketball and everything else is lumped together.
College football and basketball are the only two sports that give you actual bragging rights.

The NCAA received 1 billion in revenue just from this past year's NCAA tournament alone.

I do not watch college baseball. I might watch the national title games though.
College baseball is never in the news where I live.

I don't think there is any argument out there that college baseball is even close to college basketball in popularity. Here in the SEC it's probably closer in popularity than any other major conference but still in a very far third. For me personally, I enjoy watching our baseball team over our hoops team. I'm not really sure why, I didn't play baseball that much when I was young. I did play basketball though. Maybe it's the history at LSU, but there are lots of Tiger fans like myself that put our baseball team ahead of basketball.

Media America. I firmly believe baseball has the same importance as basketball. I always hated basketball but never had a problem going to the PMAC or watching LSU hoops.

depends on how good your team is and the yearly expectations.

Third behind basketball. Big gap between football and basketball, smaller gap between basketball and baseball.
