Bubble elimination game tonight.

I like the Vols in a close one. I think they are close to turning the corner.

VOLS are on the NIT bubble if that. Horrendous club.

You are in the sense that, if you win out in the regular season, you are right back in the conversation. That would include wins over 2 top 15 teams and put you close to 20 wins.

They're hitting their stride at an opportune time.

Eric Musselman is going to do great at Arkansas, though. I'm a little salty that Texas couldn't hire him from Nevada before the Hogs did. I could definitely see him turning that program into a perennial contender.

Vols are solid. Really like a couple lineups they have given minutes to the last couple of games. Just have to string together 40 minutes.

They are not solid. They have zero top 45 KenPom wins and they are the worst offensive club Tennessee has fielded in 20 years.

Without Turner they have zero reliable ball handlers and turn the ball over 20+ times against any team with a pulse.

They have 4.5 P6 level players on the roster.

That's a convenient cutoff there

But seriously, they've been close to a few good wins, have just struggled to get over the hump. Vescovi being so turnover prone is an issue but every team has seemingly incurable issues.

Hard for me to call a team solid that can’t beat a top 45 team in this year’s college basketball. They have not really been that close to a good win either. They are so inefficient offensively they really have no chance against good teams.

Kansas and Florida State scores are very deceiving if you look at win probability throughout those games.

Without Turner to limit turnovers and get them in to their offense this has been one of the worst products in the league. The league is bad but even with that being true it’s embarrassing for the SEC for this group to be .500 in league play.

Vescovi and James are good standstill shooters and Fulkerson is surprisingly efficient in the post but when you have no one the roster who can create their own shot and combine that with being historically bad at taking care of the ball you will get the ghastly team efficiency numbers like this group has.

Jordan Bowden
John Fulkerson
Yves Pons
Santiago Vescovi
Josiah-Jordan James
are all very much P6 level dudes. Not sure who you are counting as a 0.5...

Gaines and Johnson are decent rotation pieces as well and Pember has potential.

Vescovi is a net negative in a lot of games due to his horrendous defense. Tennessee’s defensive efficiency has taken a massive tumble since Vescovi took Turner’s minutes. Can’t stay in front of good guards in this league.

Bench is historically bad.

I don't think that's as much of Vescovi being horrendous as it is Turner being excellent in that regard.

Look at what the good guards in this league have done to him. Kentucky just went right after him possession after possession to keep that game at arm’s length. Vandy was going right after him with Lee and Wright all game. Lewis got to the bucket whenever he wanted against him against Bama.

Barnes has even talked about how limited he is and how they’ll have to hide him defensively next year when they should have a lot more guards who can defend.

The team is just very very limited in a lot of areas.

I would say they’re a below average team in a bad league. The NIT is the ceiling for a team as poorly constructed as this one has been from the get go.

With Turner maybe they could have scratched their way to Dayton, but I thought 18 wins was the ceiling preseason.

When Bone and Williams declared and Barnes replaced them with Bailey, who is ineligible and Plavsic, who is the stiff of the century, that sealed the deal for this group.

Just FYI those good guards have absolutely scorched us and many other teams as well.

Vescovi is definitely the MOST limited guard in your rotation defensively so it makes sense that opponents want to attack that matchup, but he still isn't terrible imo and is a clear + on offense.

Vescovi will be a nice player, especially if Bailey and Springer allow him to be primarily a spot up shooter, but it’s asking a lot of him to be a primary ball handler 35+ minutes and any team he’s forced to do that on is going to struggle.

I think there’s 3-4 decent pieces on the roster but they are very limited overall and don’t fit very well together.

Considering UT went in dry on hogs earlier in the season, no reason to doubt they can’t do it again.

I doubt it. I look for the hogs to win this one with Joe giving them a boost.
