the guy was .500 or greater in conference every year but two.. and he had to play Georgia every year on top of the SEC West schedule.. not to mention, he had to deal with Alabama during Saban’s best years.. yet still won the division twice.
That job would be hard for anyone imo.

If Sark didn’t work out? Idk. I’m not sure Gus would be a good fit at Texas. I’ve never really thought about it.
Here is what I would do if I was in charge.
I would hire about 20-30 of the best high school coaches in Texas who are close to retirement age.. and pay them about $100k a year to analyze the shite out of every opponents game. Put 2-3 on each team that we are going to play and that is their primary job.. along with scouting for players to recruit.
Easy retirement for them.
All for about $3 to $5 million per season.
I would then hire a HC who would be open to using that network to build a program.

Gus already owns Arky, might as well pay him too.
Correction to my fellow Horn - Gus was >.500 in all 8 seasons at AU against an average SOS of 7.13 (Sports-reference.com ranking system), which will be generally a top 5-10 SOS.
