That’s what I’m saying. Arkansas does not consider A&M a rival. They refuse to recognize Mizzou. Why do they only recognize you guys? What’s the secret history there then?

You must be young. The 60s started the fire leading to the game of the century in 1969 (before I was born) but the hate has been real ever since.. my mom went to Texas also, and to this day, she insists that Oklahoma & Arkansas have always been 1 & 2 in her eyes. To her, A&M was just always a thorn in her arse.. until they started cheating in the 80s.

Here is a good read to get you started.
Texas vs Arkansas rivalry

eta: there have been many games that mattered between Arkansas and Texas.. yes, they were a while ago, but #1 on the line type of games, for one or both teams. Same for Texas and Oklahoma. Texas and A&M is a different kind of rivalry and there have been very few games that actually mattered beyond state bragging rights.

It would be similar to asking an Alabama or LSU fan 50 years from now why there is a rivalry between those 2 teams considering that Alabama usually beats LSU. The record isn’t the only story.. the games meant something.

before long you’re going to be playing Oklahoma every year and that’s a much tougher game than Arkansas

So a team we've played yearly for the majority of our existence? Got it.

Frank Broyles and Sam Walton were the only decent things to come out of the mizzou system and we benefited greatly from both.

Frank and Darryl Royals ( sp ) were good friends and strong competitors and there were many great games between the two, though texas won more for obvious reasons. David vs Goliath each year.

Texas week was always great. This will never happen for another school in my lifetime. Though I’m not crazy about texas, they helped make us relevant due to trying to keep up with them which I respect.

Nowadays we are on a par pretty much except for recruiting. I’m surprised how far the football program has digressed, but other big programs have as well.

You have look at the series from the 60s when college football began to modernize to the year Arkansas left the SWC in 1992.

12 games were decided by a TD or less.

Both programs played in a lot of close games that decided the conference title and a trip to the Cotton Bowl.

Texas won the majority of them but it is a far cry than the domination that Bama has over Arkansas.

The way Missouri somehow lost to Auburn last year makes me think Arkansas is on to something,

I dont even consider Arkansas a rival. Kansas despite the lack of a consistent series is our real rival. No matter how hard the SEC pushes nothing will compare to the kansas hate.

It isn't about being too good lately.

We just don't care. It's forced and weird.

It's not you, it's us.

My problem with your program is not one of on the field success

It's that you're bland. And boring. And we have no history. And when the rivalry was first pushed, it was literally fronted by a corporation.

Arkansas hates Texas. Texas (to a lesser degree, but still among older fans) hates Arkansas back.

Arkansas fans of my generation learned to hate LSU and Ole Miss.

Mizzou came into the league. We lost a game that we all looked forward to at the end of the year for 20-something years and replaced it with a team that we'd hardly ever played in football.

I wouldn't expect Mizzou fans to understand. You got to be in the SEC. Hooray.

We've been here. We had a solid end of year game. It went away and we got stuck with Mizzou instead.

It just won't ever feel the same to me as LSU vs Arkansas on Black Friday, because that, to me and people my age, is tradition. It isn't personal. We just don't fricking care, and we view it as something traditional that we lost.

Yes, it is a corporate sponsored fake rivalry game, in place of one that my family literally formed traditions around on Thanksgiving because of various people who attended both LSU and Arkansas.

Mizzou will never feel right at the end of the season, or any other time for that matter.

Those were mostly very good games. We didn’t play them often but when they did roll around on our schedule they’d have the Hefty Lefty, Couch or it seems there was another really good qb I’m forgetting as well. Some of their better teams, no pushovers except the year they beat us with a receiver at qb but we weren’t very good either that year.

I like playing them and would like to play them more often.
Every time Kentucky and Arkansas meet in football it seems like the game is always an instant classic. We've had some damn good games v yall over the years.

Arkansas and Kentucky is really one that SEC missed out on. We already don't like each other in basketball, and the fanbases seem similar.

We've barely played in 30+ years.

Arkansas has played Vandy like 6 times since joining the SEC, too.

I also hate that we don't play Tennessee every year like we did the first decade plus we were in the league. I hated Tennessee in the 90s. Now we barely play.

Your post is ok blah blah blah

The bigger question is why the frick is your shithole institution in the SEC?

If the only thing you add is beating our Hogs in football during the lowest years of our program, you have issues.

This forced rivalry is, well, funny to us.
