What a great game to see! It's hard to describe to someone the magical energy we experienced that night unless they were actually there. Something was definitely in the air and it's something you never forget. (45-39) -10-28-89

Because we're fricking retarded.
We ARE the school that kept Houston Nutt around for a decade. Should come as no surprise.
This is the reason. Little Rock is a fricking cesspool compared to Fayetteville but there are enough bigtime boosters to keep games there. At least we got it down to 2 games a year.

That game or the game against Kentuckey when they had Tim Couch were maybe the two loudest games ever in WMS. LSU games are always loud though
This.
The Razorbacks HAD to play in LR way back in the day if they were going to make any money at all. Financial support from Central Arkansas enabled the program to grow. Playing games in LR was a tradition even before War Memorial Stadium was built, they played a good number of games at Quigley Stadium, which is still being used by LR Central H.S.

So let me get this right, some boosters only give money if they play games in Little Rock?

It wasn't a big deal back when Fayetteville only held 50k, but now that it holds 75k it really dumb. The game against Auburn on Saturday was as loud as any crowd in LR gets with maybe a few exceptions

Honestly, no one has had the balls to find out

Stephens family is the biggest, but then you've got all the rest of LR old money, Jonesboro boosters, and every big farm owner from the Delta and South AR wanting to keep games there. It adds up. It's basically all of them vs. NWA for where games should be played. If/when we further expand DWR Stadium in Fayetteville to 85k I think they'll have to cut it back to only 1 game if even that.

It's only a cesspool when your kind comes around bitchin' about it.
Stay away, stay in Fayetteville or wherever if it is that disgusting to you.

wow csb, I would love to see what the game day atmosphere was back then, still plenty-o-bourbon drinkin I'm sure.

We should only play LSU in Little Rock. One game every other year should make the boosters happy in Central Ark and Southern Ark.

That game was the largest margin of victory for either school. Arkansas won 51-0 that season.

If it was just money I would think the Walton, JB Hunt, Tyson families would win that battle.
There is a lot of money in Central and the delta. The area may not prosper like NWA does, but there are a shite ton of farmers who are loaded like no tomorrow. Also the Stephens family. The Osborne family as well.

NWA money is "new" money in the last 35 years or so
It is a hell of a risk to go with just that "new" money. As stated earlier, there are some deep arse pockets in other parts of this state.

This battle was fought in Mississipp and Alabama until finally all games were moved to on campus facilities. It is only a matter of time before that happens in Arkansas.
It would not bother me if it did happen, but I do not want to see our athletic program suffer donation wise for it to happen.

In a small state like Arkansas it has alot to do with "who" you know along with "how much dollars you have". The political and money power was in LR and SE Arkansas from the end of the Civil War until the past 25 years.

Yeah, old school ties for sure are a factor. I'd like to play one non-conf game there early in the season and be done with it. We should play all SEC games in Fayetteville on campus besides the A&M game in Dallas.

Maybe Arkansas could do that UCA v ASU in the morning and Arkansas v OOC in the night.
This is an awesome idea. Don't know if they would ever consider it though.

I do realize there is lots of money in LR and farmers in SE but the political and dollar in SE is slowly fading. LR will always have $$ and political power but eventually 55k seats just can't keep up with 75k seats. Frank Broyles held the coalition together for a long time but now it is just about $$.
We will have to expand Fayetteville again in the next 5 years probably, and by that point, the LR deal will have to be renegotiated again. The revenue of an extra 30k seats adds up quick when factoring in parking/concessions etc.

They're going to HAVE to rethink the LR games with the conference expanding.
You can't play 2 conference "home" games away from Fayetteville every other year. So they're going to have to be willing to walk away from $5MM per year from Jerry, or cut LR down to one OOC game. I don't see the former happening.

Yep. They're holding the program hostage for their own self interests.
It reminds me SO MUCH of the people who used to say that we should never get rid of Houston Nutt, because he's the best we can hope for. That shite went on for at least 7 years, but especially ramped up the last few. Look how that turned out.
Well you'll hear a lot of those same people saying that we can't get rid of LR games because we'll lose out on supposed "boosters" and kids will go to Arkansas State, Memphis, or Ole Miss instead of Arkansas.
So you have a bunch of Arkansas fans who think we're a great fit for the SEC, that our facilities are top notch, and that we have great leadership at the top...that's why we're able to compete with schools like Bama, LSU, or Auburn. But those SAME fans don't think we're good enough to attract a kid from somewhere like Warren if we stop playing games in LR.
fricking. Logic. Fail.

they need to simply cut Little Rock to 1 conference game. cutting LR to one non conference game just isn't fair.
little rock isn't the most propserous place on earth and unlike alot of schools, it's a state in which the entire state is behind ONE team. no NFL teams, no other in state college rivals. Lots of people can't make the trip up to F'ville who can put together enough money for a ticket to a little rock game.
i prefer it stay LSU, as it just makes that game so much better but it doesn't even have to be LSU, just a conference game. Or do a round robin conference game every year, one year you play ole miss at LR, the next you play Alabama at LR, the next you play LSU, etc.
And for all of the NWA folks who shite on little rock games, maybe if you would get off your asses every once in a while and made it a half decent game environment, it would be alot easier to make the decision. i've seen more action/excitement at golf tourneys then some of the razoerback games.
On the other hand, I do think 2 games in little rock, is too much at this point< i really do, but none just isn't right. There is something to be said for tradition, no matter what it costs.
