I remember the days that I would be nervous when we would play you guys because your offense was so potent. Is it because he ran a dual threat system?

It’s because he didn’t stay long enough for his shitty recruiting to bite him arse like it did at his stops at Louisville.

Petrino is a true offensive genius, especially with the passing games, unlike all of these RPO coaches, who coach to throw the ball in the air and recruit tall receivers to fight for them. He micromanages his offense, which works for him. His QB's are precise and receivers catch the ball without breaking stride.

But the bias against him is heavy. Every call that could go either way, almost always goes against Petrino, along with some that are just clearly wrong. He's good at evaluating talent, but he hates recruiting and I think that would have caught up with him at Arkansas.

He had an identity.

QB play and offensive play calling.

It’s a lazy take that Arkansas doesn’t have talent. Petrino loaded up on it at the skill positions.

How did he run a dual-threat system?

This. His classes might not have been ranked that high but if Bobby Petrino offered a quarterback or a receiver the kid was a blue chip recruit. He's a prick by pretty much every account but he's an elite offensive football coach.

He got a job that paid millions and kept a marriage going while boning a grad student, riding around on a Harley, and coaching a top ten football team.

Tough to replicate.

Wrecking that motorcycle saved BP. The D talent was disappearing from Nutt's era and he'd of had a tough season in 2012 if he'd of stayed.

While you may be right, I think 2012 would have been much better under Petrino than JLS.....we won 4 games that year but I think we would have won 7-8 with Petrino.

Now after that, you are probably correct

Petrino was an elite offensive mind. The game has pretty much sped up and long passed him. While he didn't always have the best talent wherever he was, his offensive scheme took advantage with matchups with substitutions, motions, personnel, and formations. I'm not sure Arkansas how long Arkansas would have given him because he never cared to get better on defense. But eventually they would wanted to go another route.
