Pot, kettle

Dude you used the word 'colloquial' to describe the difference between 30 and in the 30's the other day, please don't be talking dense, dummy.

The sooner we all accept the fact that we're all retarded, the sooner the healing can begin.

I can't tell what brings me more amusement: that you think I misused the word colloquialism, or that such a large section of your fanbase is so profoundly incapable of detecting subtlety. Either way, God bless you guys.

Seems like a necessary post. WHAT IF SOMEONE ON THE INTERNET THINKS YOU'RE NOT AS SMART AS THEM?

I'm sorry, but I simply posted that A&M was going to beat Arkansas. All in good fun. (We're probably not.) And I get called out for writing there instead of their. In response, I type a post which I thought was pretty clearly in jest, pretending to call him out him out for not using a comma when he called me out, and intentionally involving at least three common errors. Not only do these people totally miss the sarcasm of my response to his calling me out for the there/their thing, but they castigate me for using a word correctly.
I'm sorry, but it gets pretty damn irritating.

really hate to interrupt and bring this thread back on track, but has anyone pointed out that if:
happens, then there will probably be at least a dozen "Ark B Ball threads" immediately popping up on the board

you did misuse the word, nimrod. you just exaggerated or stretched the truth, that's not a colloquialism.

A colloquialism is informal talk. That's it. If you don't know that it's fairly common when talking about rpi to talk about "falling out of the top 30" to mean falling from 39 (or better) to 40 or 40+, then you are ignorant about the informal speech practices often involved.

Looks like this thread is more than dead.

what in the hell, the top 30 is the top 30 not the top 40ish????

Think of it like this: People sometimes say, "They got to stay in the top 40" as shorthand for "they've got to stay in the top 40-somethings." 49 is in the 40s, but 50 is not in the 40s. Take time to listen, and you will hear people using that kind of speech. I'm not saying it's universal, but it is not uncommon. And I don't think it is incorrect; it's just informal, loose speech. It's like saying, "He went up the spiral staircase," even though the staircase is in the shape of a helix, not a spiral. It's not incorrect so much as it is loose talk.

You obviously know different people than I do b/c I don't know anyone who would think that top 40 meant top 40 somethings.

You must not watch sports TV or listen to sports radio during discussions of the NCAA tournament selection.

Arky fans, remember the SEC Tournament last year? Same result is happening this year

So we've learned that Hugh is adamant about his syntax and has dumb friends. Cool.
