still two of only three Power 5 schools (Virginia Tech being the other one) that have NEVER won a NCAA team championship of ANY KIND?

Well, that streak should continue...........

Virginia Tech came close...

Also, Ole Miss has a legit claim to '59, '60 and '62 under Johnny Vaught... though, I suppose those couldn't technically be considered "NCAA championships."

It isn't "technical", the NCAA doesn't award a NC for FBS football.

They still acknowledge who the champions were in years past. They recognize Ole Miss as national champions in 1960. Guess who they recognize in 1964?

That's the same thing my LSU brother-in-law said to me earlier this evening when I asked him about the game last Saturday (true story...not just a smartass response).

You guys won the FWAA, right?

If so, that is a legit one in my book, I would claim it too.

The whole Minnesota thing is a facile argument made from a position of contempt anyway. It denigrates the legacy of one of the SEC's finest coaches as well, and for no good reason.

The only thing I hold against Vaught is he refused to recruit black players. And that is one reason we fell so far behind talent wise

They list who the major polls awarded a NC to each year on their website, that isn't the NCAA legitimizing the NCs awarded by these polls.

He was a product of the times in which he lived. Not to make excuses or anything, but I've always had a really hard time judging someone with decades of hindsight. Johnny was Johnny.

Sure, it would have been nice if he'd learned the lesson Bryant learned about recruiting black players, or if Bryant had been able to impart that lesson to Vaught but what can you do?

Still love the guy and am forever grateful for what he did for our program while he was our coach. But that's just one gripe I have against him.
