Yeah, that "textbook scandal" was some SERIOUS cheating. Worse than paying a QB $200k to win you a Natty!

I don't know if you know this, but Auburn was cleared after a major investigation into the Cam Newton saga. It took over a year.

Where have you been?

No, they weren't "cleared". The NCAA just said there wasn't enough evidence "at this time" to arse ream Auburn. Appears "new evidence" has come to light.

Probably Bama. They are just better at it.

so, a kid who made a stupid mistake and his coach trying to make it disappear (Langham and Stallings), and a Coach so turrible he tried to buy Albert Means is brazen cheating?

AU has it down to a science. They can hide it like no other. They can do so because of decades of practice. Even Shug Jordan's NC team was ineligible for bowl games for being caught playing players. Their 1983 team was on probation. Their 1993 team was on probation because Pat Dye admitted paying players. Their 2004 team...poor guys, only AU team I think was legit, played two FCS teams that year which screwed up their computer ranking. Their 2010 team...need I say more.

Casey Anthony and O. J. Simpson were cleared of any wrong doing as well. It's rare that a recruit's family has a house of God they are willing to launder cash money through. It was a perfect situation. Like an earlier poster said, there may not be a whole lot to this but the NCAA knows they missed one and will look at ANYTHING for the next few years.

The Textbook thing.

Scholarships cover required reading. The "scandal" was that "suggested reading" was being handed out to players as well as required reading.

Seriously. That was the whole "scandal." It was just poor business management. It wasn't as if an effort were in place to benefit athletes. It was more like lack of effort to oversee that things are done to a NZAA (sic) requirement.

NCAA wants "student athletes" but doesn't want them to be afforded the Suggested Reading books on the Syllabi. What a joke.

"New evidence" about Cam Newton?

Wow...no.

Just because you desperately want a story to be true doesn't make it be true.

Biggest and most brazen cheaters in NCAA history over an extended period is bama and it really isn't close. However they have had a lot of practice and are better at it than anyone else.

AU has had the NCAA up its arse mostly because of bama fans sending them on wild goose chases the past couple of year. They got tens of thousands of "tips" via emails from bama fans from 2010-2011.

Not exactly...According to the NCAA’s official report, the university failed to adequately monitor these reports, which showed that some students had charged academic items to their accounts on behalf of their girlfriends, friends and other acquaintances. This was the case for many of the 22 intentional wrongdoers, some of whom rang up charges in excess of $3,000.

This is the fourth time in the past 14 years that the Alabama athletic program has faced major NCAA sanctions and the third time for the football program. In 1995, the football team was placed on a three-year probation, lost 25 scholarships, 11 victories and a chance to play in a bowl game as a result of shenanigans involving players, boosters and sports agents.

Every dime of that book money was paid back. Scholarship athletes have to turn in their books at the end of the semester, or pay for them.

still.

it was a mistake of oversight. and textbooks are overpriced as it is. not cheating, just irresponsible.

AU isn't being irresponsible...they know what they are doing when they cheat.
