I don't really particularly care. The sport is dead and I'm only going to watch with lukewarm interest this year. I've already purchased my NFL Sunday Ticket package for the first time ever. If I'm going to watch professional football I might as well watch the real thing. I just need to decide which team I'm going to cheer for.

Because if you spend the NIL now on 10 more 3 or 4 stars you dont have the extra 3-5 mil to keep some big names in the off-season.

Well thought out and I agree. NIL and free range players lessen an impact, but I think long term both Alabama and Georgia seem to be doing things correctly. (Just my opinion) Get good recruiting classes and watch. Retain the productive players that work hard and are positive influences on team chemistry, and suggest lazy, clubhouse cancers to leave.

Not necessarily. If the staff evaluation sees promise in the players that have low ratings from being under-recruited, they get potential depth behind 2 very good prior classes, cost savings for future investment (recruits and transfers), and, perhaps, a greater degree of loyalty from those diamonds in the rough that pan out.
It seems an experiment in strategy more than anything else.

You've also never had to pay all the incoming recruits before so there wasnt really a downside to just signing every single player you could. Now you need to be more selective about who you take and also build through the transfer portal since you have to pay every single recruit and transfer.
Even at places like Georgia, Ohio state and Alabama, a good amount of players are going to transfer out after their freshman or sophomore year anyway so you're paying high school recruits to sign and leave before ever really seeing the field.

This didn't happen outside of maybe one or two posters. Recruiting actually doesn't mean as much now with the portal than it did just a few years ago.

Average needs to be better. LSU signed a very small, but nicely ranked class last year. With the portal, that may be the way.
Bottom line, it is July. The "are you worried about recruiting" needs to be asked in late Nov. Until then, it means nada.
