Depth. They will be guys that might see the field by their junior or senior year then you have a veteran team. They are trying to copy what Indiana had i believe.
You build a roster up so you can be super old one season.
Our 28 class wil be massive and highly rated.

What size class are y'all expecting?
Alabama is expected to sign a class of 15 to 18 recruits for 2027. Alabama currently has 14 commitments - one 5 star, three 4 stars, and ten 3 stars.

Which thought do you ascribe to? They matter or they do not? And, out of curiosity, why is Alabama expected to have a small class this year?
I think recruiting matters a lot. Better players make for better football teams. But they have to also fit needs. If you sign top 10 classes year after year but don’t recruit any offensive linemen you will have serious issues. Just because a class ranks ahead of another doesn’t mean it will automatically translate to more success on the field.
This years class is small because they have had a small amount of roster turnover and just don’t have enough slots for a 25+ recruit class.

So why not just sign a normal class? Half will transfer out, half will be depth. Maybe you get a good player or 4 out of the group.
Basically, Bama is putting all of their eggs in the basket of the 2028 class being great. What happens if your young guys this year lose 4 or 5 games and those 2028 kids start looking elsewhere? What happens if the 2028 class is more busts than hits?
Like I said, it's definitely an interesting experiment. Have never seen a top program do it before.

You sure about that?

OU is only ranked in the top 10 because they have 27 recruits committed (mostly 3 stars). Let’s cool it on Bama there champ.

Deboer needs to be adding as much beef to OL and DL depth chart as possible.
Until he figures that out his future is not uncertain
he’s gonna make $12 million a year until they fire him and pay him another $50-60 million more
i imagine he’s feeling pretty good about his future these days

Example?

I am a little concerned. I notice we have had a large drop off on quality recruits. However, I support our new philosophy of not being held hostage by high school athletes. One day the ridiculous amounts of payouts will get fixed. But yes, it still makes me cringe.

Example?
In 2025 Oregon signed 18.
In 2023 Ohio State signed 20.
In 2021 Georgia signed 20 and Clemson signed 19.
In 2019 Ohio State signed 17.
In 2017 Clemson signed 14.
In 2013 USC set the bar for a small class with 12.

Those were all fairly highly ranked classes though. I also wouldn't put 2017 Clemson in the echelon of top programs, they weren't landing top 10 classes consistently and tapping into the top 5 here and there in the cycles leading up.
2013 USC was the result of sanctions.
My point is that no top program has ever intentionally "sat out" a year and took 3-4 legit players, and a bunch of three-stars, just to bank on signing an extraordinary class the year following. Most sign the best class they can and cherry pick the best players from those classes, in this era. Some of the rest stay for depth and some transfer out.
It's an interesting experiment though, perhaps it's genius and works out perfectly. I don't know.

Ohio State’s 17 recruit class ranked 15th. Very similar to what Alabama’s final class will rank.
You would do well to quit while you are behind.

What am I missing? Also, I'd tend to agree with you, if you think Bama gets to #15 this year. Lot of ground to make up though.

They literally had top 10 classes in the two years leading up to 2017, and 4 more top 10 - including two top 5 - in the 4 years after 2017. 2017 was their worst rated class during that 7 year period.
Clemson’s on3 recruiting rankings.
2021: 5th
2020: 3rd
2019: 9th
2018: 6th
2017: 11th
2016: 10th
2015: 8th
Anything else you feel like getting wrong this evening?

Irrelevant to the perception of what 2017 Clemson was.
2017 Clemson was not an elite recruiting program, it was being built, sure.

The year. You got the year wrong.
Ohio State’s 17 man, 15th ranked recruiting class was in 2019. Not 2017 as you posted.
On3’s 2019 Football Recruiting Ranking
You at least answered my question about whether you wanted to be wrong about anything else.
ETA: let me guess, you will argue that Ohio State was not an elite program in 2019.

Isn't that the transition year where Meyer left and Day took over?

Why don’t you look it up and post the wrong answer like every other of your posts in this thread.

I'll take that as a yes.
I said no top program has ever just intentionally sat out a class with intentions of going all in the following cycle and all of your examples are sanction limits, coaching changes, or Clemson which wasn't even a bad class for them, at the time.
You made my argument for me.
