Just look at the last 4 years of recruiting rankings and the last decade of LSU defensive statistically. Pretty clear to see where the outlier is... Do you believe LSU will be 130th out of 130 teams in pass defense again this year? With almost unanimously the best corner tandem in college football? They don't even have to be good, just be top 75 in the country. If they were remotely mediocre last year, we are 7-3, and people would be saying we are underranked this year.
Nevermind the fact that we had 3 of our 4 hardest games on the road last year (now all at home this year), we started 2 true freshman QBs in those same road games (with modified practices, no summer/spring to prepare), and we still won 1 of them and competed in another.
Not saying we are going to be great, but I'd be shocked if we don't finish the season ranked. We basically have 6 guaranteed wins, 1 guaranteed loss, and 5 games that I could see going either way. I think Vegas sees it the exact same way (hence the 8.5 game win total). I'm a homer and an optimist, so I see us as a 9-3 team this year.

16 for LSU is more than fair. Once they blow the doors off of UCLA, everyone will say LSU is right where they deserve to be.
