Don’t tell me you’re taking Auburns side in all this? LSU is an established blue blood that really has won 4 trophies they don’t “claim” anything.

Alabama still has more AP titles than anyone even if you take away all the titles pre 1961.

The BCS National Championship Game was a postseason college football bowl game, used to determine a national champion of the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), first played in the 1998 college football season as one of four designated bowl games, and beginning in the 2006 season as a standalone event rotated among the host sites of the aforementioned bowls.
The game was organized by a group known as the Bowl Championship Series, consisting of the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, and Orange Bowl, which sought to match the two highest-ranked teams in a championship game to determine the best team in the country at the end of the season. The participating teams were determined by averaging the results of the final weekly Coaches' Poll, the Harris Poll of media, former players and coaches, and the average of six computer rankings. The Coaches' Poll was contractually required to name the winner of the game as its No. 1 team on the final postseason ranking; hence, the AFCA National Championship Trophy was presented to the winning team during a post-game ceremony.
1936 - 1998 - AP
1950 - 1997 - Coaches
1998 - Today - Coaches Only

Meaningless (depends on who you ask) they were voted on by the AP voters as the National Champions. It’s different then a school “claiming” they won a trophy
Your argument went from reasonable to dogshit very quickly.
USC claiming 2003 without even participating in the title game is ridiculous.

I agree USC AP title is bullshite. But it is a “voted on” title by 130 AP voters. They got a trophy and everything

More revisionist history, I see. The Fat Cats wanted the backroom deals and all the politics that go into the Beauty Pageant era of college football for over 100 years. The UPI, AP, and other systems' bias was the monster they created, and no one will ever be able to put enough lipstick on this pig to make it look pretty now.
It is what it is. Live with it.

Nah, the AP poll has been wrought with controversy throughout its history. If USC can claim the 2003 championship Auburn can claim 2004
Auburn wants to claim 2004 because USC was put on probation but Auburn also wants to claim 1958 and 1993 though Auburn was on probation and part of the sanctions were that Auburn couldn’t even play a bowl game

This feels like an LSUoverUSC thread.

Only UF and Nebraska have a Bowl Alliance trophy.

ChexMix is correct here, you can't unprint a Walmart t-shirt.
What we can, and will continue to do, is laugh at it because everyone but "the family" sees what a joke the whole thing is.

Not at I’ll. I’m taking issue with the below quote.

What the AP did in 2003 was complete bullshite and I lost all respect for them since. In 1998 a true national championship was established. You could say AP national titles were the only ones that mattered pre-BCS, but since then the AP has been irrelevant in determining the national champion.

BYU title in '84 was fake and everybody knows it. So what if they were undefeated when they played nobody including Michigan in Holiday Bowl. So how is Auburn in '83 more fake?
