Is a straight %?
If a Coach makes 5 million a year does he get his money up front or yearly from the deal?
Off a 5 million a year deal does he get say as high as 10% for the length of the deal?

All depends and their cut varies from contract to contract. Some leagues even have caps as to what cut an agent can get from a contract. Some agents also get a cut from endorsement deals and other revenue streams. Their cuts will range from 3 to 10 percent. I'd say Sexton is getting about 5% of these deals. And agents aren't getting paid until the clients are paid. They're not getting paid a lump sum up front unless it's a cut from a signing bonus as that wouldn't even really make sense.

Guy I know was trying to get into the business. He was getting 3%. I assume that's the bottom.

I think states regulate the agents cut and not the leagues. Could be both but I do know if you are an agent you have to register in the state where u conduct business.

Does he get parts of these huge buyouts when coaches are fired?

A quick google turned up this information:
Sports agents generally receive between 4 and 10% of the athlete's playing contract, and 10 to 20% of the athlete's endorsement contract, although these figures vary. NFL agents are not permitted to receive more than 3%, and NBA agents not more than 4%, of their client's playing contracts.

When you're repping 12/14 SEC coaches, that cheddar adds up quickly.

I'd assume so. Wouldn't see why an agent wouldn't as that would be income earned

It's lucrative work if you can get it.

If his stable gets big enough, those percentages will add up to a single coach's mega-salary.

He truly is the best in the business. I would hate trying to negotiate with him.

Way more than that actually.

Never heard of this and I highly doubt leagues have any authority over any type of contract between a school a coach and his agent.

Don’t forget: Jimmy and his company CAA also represent ESPN and SECN clients like Tebow, Finebaum, etc
He might even represent other types of entertainers, etc

SEC should set a limit.
They have absolutely no authority to do that, any more than they have the authority to cap coaches' salaries.
Pro sports leagues have players unions and contracts with the leagues. Anything compensation related is governed by the collective bargaining agreement.

Sexton is the premier agent in college football. He is probably at 10% minimum.
