I would base it first on last matchup.

This is not the poll era, anymore. The national championship is won by winning the national championship game (technically the AP could name a different national champion for their poll, but they never do that). If Alabama doesn't win the national championship game, then they don't have a share of the national championship. That's the simple bottomline.

I know this is a ‘12 gotcha post..but you didn’t even play in the SEC championship game that year..and it was top 2 team BCS..not a 4 team playoff. But ya..you’re right though..we still would have said that..
