I expected it get this out of hand in the 3rd Q, they didn’t even provide a full half of being competitive

The conferences chose these rules. The reason was mainly to avoid lawsuits and because the ACC and Big 12 wanted to make sure they didn't get left out.

They didn't thin the champions of crappy conferences would finish ahead of theirs... but then this year happened.
