That's really a shame. This game was meant for primetime. There would be no other game that carries more national implications if all goes well and we don't center an iceberg this weekend.....

The ratings are gonna be sick regardless of when teh game is played so i see no reason to move it and pay espn for the move.

I highly doubt it would happen.

The odds are stacked up against it. I'm sure CBS is hitting themselves in the face for using their prime time slot for Alabama-Florida.

I mean, it would take a huge amount of money for it to happen. I just don't see it unless they work some deal like when ESPN used all of their networks to show the UNC-Duke game in different formats and angles at the same time. And that is probably the dumbest idea ever

I think you would open up a flood gate of purple and gold hate if you move it to night time.

Primetime advertising rates are higher. CBS could make up anything they pay ESPN through advertising during the broadcast.

That said, I doubt it happens. I'm fine with the 2:30 slot.

If it's true that CBS has approached ESPN, then it will definitely end up at night. They'll work it out.

I'm not convinced that CBS has in fact approached ESPN.

the tv contract with the SEC, ESPN, and CBS gives CBS the right to air ONE primetime game a year which they already did this year. In return for CBS getting first choice of all SEC games weekly, CBS cannot air another game at that time

that would compete with ESPN's choice of game for the week.

I am pretty sure that there is talk behind the scenes in making this game a prime time game if both teams are 8-0 going into the game. Thankfully, there is a bye week before the game that will give the networks additional time to maybe work something out.

CBS could also offer first pick on future games. That said, I don't think it happens.

frick that. I WANT it at 2:30. Night games in Tuscaloosa are fun, until I have to drive back to Birmingham and fight that postgame traffic and not get home until 1:00 AM.

Why would CBS need permission from another tv station to air something on their own channel at a particular time? Would they need to ask NBC?

It's extremely rare, but CBS has moved a 2:30 game back to around 4:00 PM before. My brother and I were talking about this the other day and swears up and down it has happened before and in a recent season too. I could see them moving the game back an hour or hour and a half. A 4 PM kickoff would be perfect. Not too early and not too late.

But with the new contracts this is no longer possible without permission from ESPN.

With that said, I dont know why all these naysayers are so adamant that this isnt going to happen. I would not doubt this happeneing one bit being this far out from the game. They dont have to have their schedules ready until Monday which is plenty of time to both work out a deal and plan schedules.

The fact that Gameday is there in my opinion makes it even more likely that it may happen.

This is spot on. The people who would watch the game at 7:oo are still going to watch it at 2:30. CBS having it at 2:30 means that they have a huge rating for their afternoon slot and still have their huge rating with their AARP crowd still tuning in at 7:00 to watch CSI:Whatever. Put the game on in the evening and you loose the CSI:Whatever viewers and numbers overall. Wasnt this one of the thoughts behind ABC letting Monday night football go to ESPN? They increase rating on 2 networks instead of 1.

I think the chances are slim for one reason.

ABC has a primetime game that night, and 98% of college football fans ate going to watch the Bana/LSU game. ESPN isn't going to make a decision that torpedoes their sister ststion's ratings.

I heard CBS is nation wide at 2:30 but at 7:00 it would regional. So if true CBS would lose money moving it and then lose power and probably more money to ESPN also. Not a chance its a 7:00 game and Im actually glad.
