Dooley is the 3rd worse coach in UT history. And yet should have beat the #10 team in the country. As long as Dooley isn’t coaching next weekend, the Vols win by 10

The Post-Game call in shows were fricking epic that afternoon/evening. Pitchforks were out for Miles that day. Many wanted him fired on the spot for a game that we won.
Remember this was less than a year after we lost at Ole Miss for spiking the ball with 1 second left. Les was caught on camera screaming for Jefferson to spike it and then lied in post game and said he had no idea who told him to spike the ball.

Les was “leaving” for Colorado after the 2010 season due to this and the Ole Miss debacle the year before, then we beat Bama and that saved him.
Alleva had just come in and wanted his own guy but Les and Jindal were buddies.

Dooley was so bad. One of the worst coaches in SEC history.

Didn't the same thing happen in the bowl game vs UNC?

No but it gave us all flashbacks because it was yet another game that we won only to lose after it was over. (IIRC, that game was the 3rd game that season we lost after it was won in an always bizarre fashion). It's that season and all that followed that led announcers and fans to refer to Dooley as the most snake bitten coach out there. However, what happened during that bowl game was so egregious it led to the Tennessee rule aka the run-off rule.
UNC was able to re-kick after the game was over because they caused a penalty. It was so egregious the NCAA responded with the run-off rule so that teams could no longer benefit from their own penalty.
2010 Music City Bowl - Run-off rule
quote:
Because of the 4th quarter situation in which North Carolina's foul stopped the clock, a rule change was made effective beginning with the 2011 season. The new rule calls for a 10-second runoff to be assessed in addition to any yardage penalty when the offense commits a foul that causes a clock stoppage, unless the penalized team opts to take a time out.[6]
Two years later, the NCAA adopted additional rules stipulating that at least three seconds must be left in the half for a team to spike the ball and stop the clock for another play. That rule would not have applied here because the game clock was not stopped prior to the ball being marked ready for play. A couple plays earlier, North Carolina gained a first down which stopped the clock with 19 seconds remaining. It was started when the ball was marked ready for play. That's the situation where the 3-second rule would have applied if there were fewer than 3 seconds remaining.

turned off the TV and slammed down the remote and didn't find out we'd won until the next morning.

That was so ridiculous, I threw my damn remote at the wall and yet somehow we won. One thing about Les, for the first part of his coaching career at LSU he was the luckiest coach on the planet
