This year, Notre Dame was number 3 in the “old” BCS ranking. They were number 2 in ESPN FPI. They were number 1 in strength of record. They certainly would have made a 4 team playoff with only one loss.

What were they in the CFP ranking itself?

No matter how many times it’s pointed out that Freeman had to beat SEC Champion UGA and Penn State in the Orange, both things Kelly never accomplished

He also had the luxury of losing a G5 game during the regular season.

Kelly had to run the table.

Interesting how your dishonest argument never mentions that.

He wouldn’t have made it in 2012 with a loss? I can’t remember other than everyone knew Alabama was going to destroy Brain Kelly’s ND team

I know you are in full on Sidewalk disingenuous defense mode but damn are you putting in work because every fan base in America would rather have Freeman as coach.

If you are happy with Kelly, why are you melting so hard about what everyone else thinks?

Not this. This board has been pointing out that Notre Dame actually can win in the playoffs now that Kelly isn’t their coach.

It’s not the board’s fault that Brian Kelly’s biggest postseason win the last 15 years is the Citrus Bowl

Brian Kelly felt he couldn't win a championship at Notre Dame because he felt like they couldn't compete with elite teams like Ohio State.

We will see if he was correct or not.

If BK and LSU had beaten Texas A&M and USCw the team would be in the playoffs. Freeman and Notre Dame did beat Texas A&M and USCw. Right now Notre Dame is playing in a championship game. Freeman took care of business and BK didn't.

Besides Oregon's bracket, which was stacked as frick, who didn't have an easy path? Especially if y'all are going to sit here pretending like Georgia's strength is at QB, the backup didn't lead the comeback against Texas, and "Picks" Beck was some awesome talent.

Notre Dame had the second hardest path in the playoffs, easily.

This thread is basically Sidewalk trying to convince people Robert Horray is better than Kobe bc he has more rings.

Well yeah, Freeman won a NY6 bowl in year 3 while BK lost to 3 unranked teams.

I'm saying it was easier this year because there was no truly elite team to run into.

Look at the two teams playing for the title, one had two regular season losses, and didn't even play for their conference championship. The other has a loss to a G5.

When was the last time the field was this bad?

"The field was so bad!" Yet LSU still couldn't make it in with the supposed #2 current HC in the SEC.

LSU wasn't very good this year, they lost to some bad teams.

That doesn't mean the field wasn't also bad.

If you disagree that it wasn't easier this year to win a playoff game due to there being no truly elite team, then what team do you believe was elite?

Just an aside but I don’t think I have ever heard someone say “My brother in Christ” followed by a bet my kids life on it kind of challenge. Only on the rant.

They're propping up Captain Blowout Loss for deeply insecure reasons. Kelly's a fraud with a career losing record vs ranked opponents. 3-6 at LSU. Bum feasted on service Academies and G5 schools.
