QB is different. Really only one guy can be the guy. If you are behind and established starter that is going to be there another 2-3 years then I don’t see anything wrong with wanting to play.
Or if you’re a guy like Bryant or Hurts who lose your job to a younger player.
These guys want to play

When the stakes are millions of dollars they want to increase their chances on getting there.

I meant As sophmorbut realistically
There is 1 QB
Experience matters a lot
You don’t rotate
If you’re young and find yourself behind another young QB, you are probably better off transferring.

I just don’t get these guys. When he committed they already had a freshman QB who was good so he new what he was walking into. It’s not like bye we’re in the same class and one turned out slightly better then the other but both were good

it is being reported that Jalen Hurts has applied, and been accepted, for Grad School at Alabama.

No for the simple reason one QB plays. No DL rotation or special teams on nickel or dime packages. One QB plays and who wants to ride the bench? Especially a highly rated player who wants to go to the NFL

We are gonna keep seeing this untill kids start paying attention to rosters during recruiting instead of looking at the sticker on the side of a helmet.

Each situation is unique. It depends on the player's abilities and realistic expectations weighed against the other players ahead of him at his school and what lies ahead at his new destination. We cannot only judge by looking at the facts for each position.

There are so many good football schools out there that could use a qb right away.
I just don't understand why Fields would have chosen Georgia with Fromm already there.
I never understood why a guy like Cardale Jones just wanted to sit the bench his whole career. He got damn lucky everyone got hurt that year or you would never know who he was
He could have gone to a school like Wisconsin or Michigan State and taken them pretty damn far and started 3 or 4 years
What about Alabama loaded up with 4 and 5 stars recruits that may never get to be a starter? Missouri would love to get some of them and they would be starters on the team.

If you're a great QB in your soph. year and you go down with a broken leg bone, and one of the guys takes your job and doesn't look back, you should be able to explore other options.

I'm sure Baker Mayfield thinks transferring is a great idea.

QBs like Fields should not be able to transfer. He went to Georgia knowing that Fromm was there . I understand the Clemson QB transfering because a younger QB came in and stole his job .

If you’re referring to Troy Aikman, there’s also the fact that OU was running the wishbone at the time.

No we weren't. Troy was brought in to transition us to a pro-style offense with a passing game. We had to re-install the wishbone after he went down.

As long as coaches can leave players should be able to do the exact same thing.
JF has to do what's best for him. I hate to see him go, but UGA will be just fine and hopefully he find a program that will maximize his talent, which UGA never really figured out how to do.

I remember the Springdale kid transferring back to Arky from USC about 10 years ago

There was an article earlier this year that said the number of 4 and 5 star QB transfers since 2010 has been over 50%, so to answer your question, a lot of them. LSU has had a metric shitton of QBs transfer and only two have started again, Justin McMillan for Tulane a few games this year and Anthony Jennings at ULL. None of them have amounted to anything. For every Will Grier or Kyler Murray, there are probably 10 QBs that were never heard from again.
The question is, would they have amounted to anything if they stayed? Obviously there's no way to answer that question conclusively without Professor Farnsworth's what-if machine, but it is a legitimate counterpoint in any debate over the issue of quarterbacks transferring out.
