Despite all of that dominance, Bama still needed quite a bit of luck to win several of their NCs (and were unlucky not to win a couple more):

2009 - Colt McCoy gets injured in the first half. We have no way of knowing how that game ends with McCoy.
2011 - Needed the Iowa State upset of OSU to get a rematch of LSU
2012 - UGA WR catches deflected ball in bounds and loses the game. 12-0 Ohio State ineligible for postseason.
2013 - Kick-6. They would have destroyed Mizzou and played FSU for the NC.
2014 - #4-seed OSU with their 3rd string QB.
2015 - Onside kick turned the game.
2016 - Lost a classic NC against Clemson
2017 - Made the playoff without winning conference. Saban benched his starter for a freshman at halftime.
2018 - Nothing ground-breaking here. Clemson just beat them.
2019 - Took a star-studded LSU team, and Tua getting hurt vs Auburn to not make the CFP (maybe).

And back when teams like aTm and ole miss beat him he had a completely different philosophy. I don’t think anyone stands a chance against him now with the talent he gets. Somebody might find lightning in a bottle for a year like we did last year, but I see no end to the dominance while Saban is there.

It's absurd. Alabama's dominance of the best division in the best conference of college football over the span of a decade is downright ridiculous. LSU and Auburn both have natties in that timeframe and Alabama is the reason LSU doesn't have another. They aren't just doing it against shite programs and teams. Saban is the best coach in college football history and it isn't even close to being debatable at this point IMO.

The fact that we're already on page 4 and nobody has pointed out that the records listed by the OP actually add up to Saban only being 16-108 in SEC play might honestly be the most surprising aspect of this thread.

Also, 98 straight vs unranked teams, conf and non-conf. The previous record was 72.

The only thing ending Alabama's dominance in any foreseeable future is if college players start getting paid (I mean above the board). It may start off as an innocuous concession to those who feel the players are being exploited by the big bad colleges that offer them ONLY a college education for their services, but once started down that road there is no turning back.

In 3-5 years of playing football, in addition to free tuition, players get free housing, food, world class physical training and medical, luxury facilities, tutoring, and treated like gods on campus. Also, players do get paid. Every P-5 football player gets a $3-5000 a year stipend. It’s not what many of them are worth but it’s not nothing.

This isn’t about education anymore.

Bama’s mid-year football graduates this past Saturday after the Arkansas game:

Mac Jones, quarterback (masters degree)
Dylan Moses, linebacker
Najee Harris, running back
Christopher Allen, linebacker
Phidarian Mathis, defensive lineman
LaBryan Ray, defensive lineman
Brian Robinson Jr., running back
Slade Bolden, wide receiver
Hunter Brannon, offensive lineman
Kendall Randolph, tight end/offensive lineman
Major Tennison, tight end

Bama rushes back to Tuscaloosa for graduation

Alabama has been and will be dominant without him. They will always be top dog in the SEC.
I guess you missed the DuBose, Franchione, Price, Shula decade.

I find it pretty insane that saban is 14-0 against Arkansas and Tennessee. You’d think they’d slip one in there in a down year or something but nope. Dude is hands down the goat.

In 2010 we finished 4th in the west behind Arkansas(#2) even though we beat them.

I’m not naive enough to think Bama drops off like Nebraska or Miami.

However there will be a drop off from the GOAT coach. No matter what. They’ll still play for titles.

However I will bet cold hard cash that whoever replaces Saban will have more 10-11 win seasons in his first 5 years as Saban did in his whole career at Bama.

They will still be elite. However it’ll take a while for their fans to accept 11-2 as a really good season and only winning a Natty every 5-6 years. Instead of 1-3 years.

For me I see anything Saban does now is just icing on the cake. I doubt UA or any program will ever see the success Saban has brought to UA.

In regards to the post Saban era it will depend on Saban. I hope he goes out on top with an undefeated season and NC, then retires. Not counting this season because there will be to many *s around it. But I do not want to see him hang on until it goes down hill like Bowden, Paterno, or even Fulmer.

I think he will go out on top and the program will be in great shape for whoever takes over, except for the crazy fans who unrealistically expect the next HC to repeat what Saban has accomplished.

If that happens UA can still stay near the top and no roller coaster seasons.

To be honest another notation for what he has done in my opinion he has elevated the conference, especially the west. Not only has UA under Saban become one of the top programs in the country it has made several teams and the conference overall one of the best. It forced other programs to either keep up or get left behind. He created a blueprint for success and others have followed. Yes LSU was continuing off what he did at LSU and UF had Tebow, but overall I believe it was Saban that made the SEC what it is today.

He is an interesting stat since Saban came to UA. Since 2007 12 of the 13 years an SEC team has been in the NC game. Two of the years saw 2 SEC teams play each other in the NC. The SEC has won 9 of those with 3 losses against OOC teams, but another 2 losses vs the SEC. Also 13 of the last 14 NC games if you add UF in 2006.

Another interesting stat is how many assistants have been hired away, and yet he keeps winning.

Malzahn is the only coach that had moderate success against Saban which is why his firing could ultimately prove costly for Auburn.

It's actually surprising that he's only won 6 SEC titles with this overall record. How many seasons has one loss to the eventual SEC West champ prevented an SECCG birth? 2011, 2013, 2017 and 2019?

It speaks volumes as to how tough the conference actually is (western division in particular), even though the conference itself gets a lot of shite for being "overrated". No team could survive playing Alabama, LSU, Auburn and even Aggy every year.
