I continue to be amazed by basic human nature. A shallow-minded person will believe something that he/she wants to believe, regardless of the absurdness of it, over any rational, well thought out scenario....it's actually a child-like approach.

So you think everyone is handing out cars to players etc etc?

Technically, no. But Bama signs high 4* and 5* players. Those guys are getting cars. And they're not turning down cars from other schools just to go to Bama and not get a car

I think what happens most of the time is things like cars are loaned or leased or whatever. It's by far one of the easiest ways to give a pat on the back and do it through legal channels that nobody can't ever really nail down specifically as a "benefit" that you couldn't argue another non football player could get.
Then after they leave it's just forgiven or paid off or whatever. Honestly probably the most prevent and easy to do thing left in cheating outside of hundred dollar handshakes.

It’s a pretty interesting article if you haven’t ever read it...

The most common non-cash gifts to recruits are cars. In every major city inside the Southeastern Conference's footprint is a tangle of auto dealerships with varying ties to particular schools. "There are jokes about kids getting cars, but that's actually pretty easy. We all have dealerships all over. You practically have to nowadays, anyway, just for the coaches. Think about it. Most schools, all the football, basketball, and baseball coaches and their wives are getting some kind of vehicle for free as part of their contract. Then they're turning them in every three years or so. That's a fleet right there. You need a lot of guys with dealerships, and you need them in different towns. Then getting a clean title on a member of the family is pretty easy."

Imagine how many cars it would take for a star player to even consider Georgia Tech.

So let me guess Forest Park or Loganville??

I'm glad concerned citizens like you are on top of things.

So what happens when these kids turn down Alabama in favor of other schools? They just did it out of the pride for their state? Or are they getting cars too?

I dont know what article you are referring to but I am not that cynical. I dont think major P5 schools are doing this. There is too much at stake and there are other players.

Exactly. Why dont they turn in Alabama? Hell if it is so obvious and blatant then why doesnt hte NCAA do anything?

The article I linked and quoted above. I do think a lot of the Chargers and more conspicuous vehicles are probably on the player, but the other does go on as well.

A high 4* or 5*? They're getting a car from some other school. Maybe a house and job for Momma, too
ETA: I mean this only for the players who actively seek these type of things. I'm not one of those guys who think every recruit is looking to get paid.

Coming from where we are from, any teen having a car, let alone a brand new Mustang is a pretty fricking big deal. We all didnt grow up in Buckhead, Sandy Springs or Hoover.
But I live in Montgomery, AL (send prayers) and on any give day when the weather is clear, I can drive through West Montgomery and dozens and dozens of guys out washing/waxing/polishing their brand new rides. Lexus/Lincoln/Cadillac/etc.
Folks living in the poorest, crime ridden area of town in government subsidized housing or run down shacks with kids attending these shitty public schools of Montgomery and yet the driveways and parking lots are littered with brand new tricked out rides. Tires, rims, chrome, top shelf sound system - the WORKS. How is that possible?
