Thought you guys might like this. We have some great photographers who photograph all of our games for rivals. The one who was down for the baseball series apparently went though Tuscaloosa and took some shots of the devastation (I hadn't realized how bad it was until I scrolled through them) Anyways here are a few pics I think the 'Bama fans can take some serious pride in.
No one hopes for catastrophes but I will say anytime something devastating happens I always love seeing that one of the 1st things countless Americans do is raise that American flag.
Not sure if you have to be a registered member to see them but here is the gallery for those who are interested if it works.

Thanks, those are great photos - not great subject matter of course, but he is a good photographer.
If any of you are in the market for a new puppy, one of my sorority sisters is married to a vet in Tuscaloosa and they rescued a litter from the rubble and are looking for good homes for them.

Some are named after former Bama players. That's cute
I'm sure the vet already knows it or maybe even has already done it, but loading the pics onto Petfinder.com is a great way to get them great homes.
I don't think we would have reunited several Katrina pets with their former families if it wasn't for that site. One was reunited a year after Katrina and is a great story to tell. Shelters and Humane societies also use Petfinder to show what pets they have up for adoption or if they have some pets they just rescued from a natural disaster or whatever.

I'll tell my sorority sister about Petfinder. Thanks!

And the vet is a HUGE AU fan, too.
So is he the one who named them?

I would go get little Marquis Maze and bring him home.
They are all cute! I would look, but no way I could care for one right now. What breed/mix are they?

You're Welcome! I think I saw the other day that there was a free iphone app for it as well.

I don't know if he named them, but I would bet it was the staff or his wife.
Yeah, with my new job and already having a dog, we can't get a new puppy right now, but I would love to take one of these little guys in. Instead, I just sent the clinic some money to buy food and things for them until they get adopted.
I don't think they know exactly what breed they are, they didn't find the mama. :( Looks like they may have some lab in them though.

Check out this interactive map of Tornado deaths. Alabama looks like it has a bullseye on them.

TORNADO RELIEF FUND UA Acts of Kindness: www.ua.edu/tornadorelief
Due to the devastation, trauma, and destruction that our beloved university has encountered, we are donating a portion of the proceeds from the event to The UA Act of Kindness, which is a non-profit organization that will provide financial aid to the tornado relief. The information of the charity is as follows:
“The UA Acts of Kindness Fund will be used to provide financial assistance to employees and students who qualify under the guidelines of this emergency-assistance program. Emergencies usually are related to loss and damage caused by fire, tornado or other natural disaster or a medical emergency that causes leave without pay. The program may be used to help employees and students pay grocery bills, rent or mortgage payments, electric, gas and medical bills"
We are committed to the rebuilding, recovery, and sustainability of our community. I encourage everyone to help those who have lost their family, homes and jobs due the aftermath of the tornado. My prayers go out to all the survivors of Tuscaloosa. Thank you for your continued support and consideration.

After all the south has been through this year, I sure hope hurricane season is just a bunch of tropical storms if anything. We all need a break from it all.

Namath returns "home"
quote:
"It knocks the wind out of you," Namath said at NorthRiver Yacht Club on Monday. "I knew people who used to live in those neighborhoods. I know people today who were affected. My closest friends escaped, thank God. But one of the ladies who helped me when I came back to finish my degree lost her home.
"But when I saw it in person for the first time, I was just very thankful that the loss of life was not more than it was. The toll was terrible, more than 40 people, but you look at some of the areas and you wonder how anyone survived."
Namath says he will do "everything I can" to assist with Tuscaloosa's recovery, including a visit to several of the impact areas today.

The pictures from Joplin, MO are ridiculous. It's similar to Tuscaloosa except all the partially destroyed homes in Tuscaloosa are completely destroyed in Joplin. There are a few homes in the Tuscaloosa damage path that MAY (unlikely but still possible) be salvagable whereas I don't see any homes in Joplin that are salvagable.

Had to go up to Shoal Creek today.. only got a couple pics loaded, but will do more tonight when time. Pics don't do justice to the amount of damage done. It's hard to tell, but the mtns in te background used to be nothing but fully grown trees. You can see the ground for miles now, where there used to be vegetation, lots of foundations exposed too.

couple more pics...the long distance shot to the mountain is like that on the other side.. it was a huge swath cut through the valley. It's very rural through there, but still had 11 die through that valley alone. The path was about 8 miles long on the road I was on and continued on up into Neely Henry Lake and into Etowah Cty.
