A one time donation to renovate a stadium is no indication of willingness to subsidize a multimillion dollar raise that would have to be paid annually. Do you have the Koch Brothers on speed dial or something?

Your right, I can not imagine WSU paying an additional $1.2M to pay a coach that takes their Schools name to the Sweet 16. I am sure they get that type of publicity all the time. The Brothers would have to drive to business meetings, if that happens.

What are you and Auburnphan going to say IF somehow Marshall chooses to take the $25M over 6 years at Bama? I think it is more likely to not happen than to actually happen, but at this point you've both backed yourselves into a corner with you "WSU will match" and "doesn't matter how much you offer he knows Bama would set his career back so he isn't coming" comments.

Today you are saying what the vast majority believe - that it is a long shot. However, you're giving yourselves no wiggle room and will look like (even bigger than usual) fools if Bama does land him.

That idiot Phan is too blinded by hate to stop his drivel over mere facts.

Marshall certainly didn't laugh it off just now on Jim Rome. Matter of fact, made it clear he would listen to an offer from Bama. I'd say it's 50/50 at this point.

Is there a greater, more specific summary you can provide, or is the above the gist of it all?

I've said all along that it would be plan b or c, but proving idiots wrong would be nice.

Alabama is one of the top thrree most profitable ADs in the country. It's laughable to say it can't create a solid basketball foundation with its resources. If a coach is brought in with a substantial contract, you can bet more facility upgrades are soon to follow.

Said if they come with a crazy big offer, I'll certainly talk to them and listen.

Matt Norlander @MattNorlander
That's a paraphrase of Marshall on @jimrome. In short: He said he'll be forced to listen after the season is over if the offer is heavy.

Walk in with $6mil cash in dufflebags. Throw it on the table and say "Now let's talk about your salary."

Bring Nick Saban into the room and offer them both $10mil contracts.

What I've been saying all along.

Bama is low-balling him big-time with 3 million. I assumed a formal offer would come in the form of 3.75-4 million

No doubt it'll take some crazy offer to get Marshall. Is Bama willing to take it to the crazy level?

I think we absolutely are. The SECN changed the game. I wouldn't be shocked if we approached five million.

When did Bama offer him 3 million? Have they offered him anything yet?

Perhaps you missed it yesterday when Gary Parrish & Cecil Hurt said that the conversation would begin at double his current salary ($1.75M, which would be $3.5M) and would go up from there to "whatever it takes". They'll make him say no to a boatload of money.

I've got a buddy who is a sports agent, primarily to football coaches, but he said the rumor is the initial offer will be or $25M over six years, guaranteed unless probation, with the potential to be $30M over six years when you factor in bonuses.
