Name 3 top coaches that EVER stayed more than just a few years at a "mid major".
Depends on who you consider a top coach...as well as what you consider a few years:
Jerry Tarkanian: UNLV (20 years)
Mark Few: Gonzaga (16 years)
Jim Larranaga: Bowling Green (11 years), George Mason (14 years)
Gregg Marshall: Winthrop (10 years), Wichita State (8 years)

So you were just responding-- incorrectly-- to something I wasn't even talking about? I'm not sure how you got program strength from a We Have More Money to Blow post.

Alabama fans are delusional about what their basketball program is. They are also delusional about how much money their school has because they are fixated only on athletic department revenues.

We are not delusional about the state of our basketball program which is why Grant got fired and we are prepared to drop big $$$ on both a coach and facilities to make it elite. Bama is doing very well thank you in the AD department, as much revenue and profitability as anyone not named Texas. We have record enrollment and endowement dollars. Bama punches above its weight in all areas You are correct about the commitment issue and if Bama becomes as committed to basketball as we are to the football program, watch out.

They're going to waste their time chasing a pipe-dream and wind up with someone like John Pelphrey.
At least they can fall back on the UAB dude.

Although from what I hear, he's not making these decisions independantly ~ he is being "guided" in this endevour.
IMO - Marshall won't leave a good thing like Wichita State, at least not right now.

Nobody needs to watch out for bama basketball. ESPN college basketball reporter Jeff Goodman told al.com a couple of days ago there was not a snowballs chance in hell of Bama getting Marshall or any big name coach. He said the best coach bama had a realistic chance of getting was the guy at Murray State and that is only because the guy went to school at bama.
Kind of shows what a national guy that gets paid to cover college basketball for a living thinks of bama basketball

There's value in walking down the street and people going, 'There's our coach. He's a great coach.' I don't want my children having to go to school and getting ridiculed with all the crazy stuff people say."
That settles it then... he sure as hell ain't goin' to Bama.

Or having Saban sell you could be a pretty inticing...ever met Saban?
So you're putting Gregg Marshall's ability to be persuaded...
At the level of a high school athlete?

Well it would be negligent for any search to exclude mr Marshall, that is for sure.

Not for a job like Alabama.

Well he doesn't have to worry about that any more. His son is graduating.

Why not? At Alabama, you can sweep your rival no matter WHO they hire.

Who gives a frick what Goodman thinks...his opinion is about as valid as yours...which is to sya it don't mean shite...
The bottom line is that Bama is prepared to drop big bucks to get a top shelf basketball guy and make a commitment to facilities and recruiting and that should, if it goes as planned, bring the program forward in a major way much to your chagrin.

I didn't read 20 pages; but this thread is comical. Pawwwwwl even said the Koch brothers won't let GM get away from WS.

$3,000 a year probably isn't going to do it. Will take at least $10,000 in my opinion.

Yeah, but he could be neighbors with Saban. They could get brunch on Sundays and dog-sit for eachother.

I think Paul Finebaum is a blowhard who rarely has useful inside info. It's interesting that you quote him to make your point while at the same time mocking the Alabama fans who call in to his show.
And by "interesting", I mean pathetically hypocritical and stupid.

I don't really think Bama fans/supporters care what a "national guy" thinks about Bama basketball at the moment.
The point is that UA is showing a huge commitment to basketball. They are willing and more than able to financially support multiple sports. I for one, am happy to see this.
I'm not getting excited or antsy for Marshall, because I feel like he won't leave his current job.

No I was responding to the dumb arse comment you made about WSU not being able to match Bama's offer. You were just looking at the Athletic Budget, which in itself has flaws, but matching money would more than likely come outside the Athletic Department. Look at their major donors before you open your mouth.
