Per my recollection as a student, it isn't that far behind.

I'd love it, but they'd never do it.

No. As an Arkansas fan I can tell you it has sucked playing 2 or 3 fewer on campus home games every year because our leaders have wanted to play in Little rock or Dallas. It's worse for recruiting and a waste of hundreds of millions of dollars spent to build, upgrade and maintain world class facilities on your own HOME stadium. Let your college town and businesses get money from the games. Not fricking Birmingham

Agreed!

It makes no sense to divert $$ to the Birmingham economy, play in a smaller stadium and smaller tailgate area, lose an on-campus home game and the revenue it brings to Tuscaloosa.

Why don't we just play these directional schools in B'ham for the A-Day game? Then get on with a major conference schedule for the bg boys.

I think they'd be happy to play us anywhere but their own stadium. And maybe the Superdome.

False. Nobody misses playing in the shitty part of town.

And you think UAB's stadium is in a nice part of town?

Tell us you've never spent any time in downtown Birmingham without actually telling us you've never spent any time in downtown Birmingham.

Sure, there's a Topgolf and a Texas de Brazil close by. There's also a low income housing project a few blocks away, along with the county jail, the parole reporting office, various homeless non profits...and it sits right beside the interstate. Sure, it may not be like the hood around Legion Field. But the notion that a few upscale establishments by that stadium suddenly makes that area a nice part of town is downright comical.

The idea that Alabama should play in that stadium is beyond stupid. For starters, why the hell should they pay rent to the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center Authority when they have their own stadium? Second, with a capacity of only 47,000...they're just supposed to forfeit 50,000 tickets? Even Mercer and New Mexico State last year drew 95,000 and 97,000. even at only $30 a ticket. That's $1,500,000 in revenue just for ticket sales.

We do this exact thing with Little Rock and it sucks. It's taken decades to finally quit doing it

Plus the new Birmingham stadium has a lot of cool stuff around it.

Yeah.

The Jefferson County Jail.
Greater Birmingham Ministries.
Park Place Apartments (Public housing).
State of Alabama Pardons and Parolees Day Reporting Center.
The Salvation Army Thrift Store.
Birmingham Work Release Office.
A long stretch of freeway overpass.

And, conveniently located a couple of blocks away in case you need them when you return to your car after the game, Windshield Repair Today of Birmingham.

Yeah Nick, we want to see Bama beat up on pissant teams like USA, AUM, and Troy.

Nick is just wanting some actual kids from Alabama to play in Bryant Denny, since he doesn’t play very many himself.

How many students have showed up for lower tiered opponents in recent years? Aren't we constantly bitching about their lack of participation in 11:00 games against Austin-Peay and similar opponents? At least if the game was held in Birmingham the stadium would be filled by people who actually want to go to the games.

I agree. When I was at Bama, we had to drive up to B'ham to see the good games. Let these students, including my kids, see what that was like.
Maybe they will stop complaining and learn to stay until the end of the game!

Is Birmingham the only city you have been to? Every city has a jail and subsequent bondsman, PO office downtown... It is exactly why people use the terminology "going downtown" when being arrested.

And how would a jail make the city less safe.... They are inside of it. Do you people think before you spew.
