Except for the whole "here are some stats" thing you literally just did 5 minutes ago but yes.

Some people will only accept stats. You and I have been around the world on this subject in the past. I thought Bama’s D was very average this year. I thought the DL didnt get pressure like they have in the past, their LBs did not dominate like they have in the past when they are good and their DBs were suspect because of the other two. I never looked at the stats until the posted them before the game.

I thought our defense was average early (terrible at times in the middle), improved as they got more snaps against bad teams throughout the year, and was above average the 2nd half of the season. Not elite, but above average.

Our young front 7 players got better, and Allen and Anderson became elite pass rushers by year end.

My concerns next year are CB and burst at DT. We will have experience at all 3 levels to go along with high level talent from inexperienced guys.

Because of those things, I feel good about us having a pretty good defense next year. I don't expect domination, but I expect an experienced defense that knows what they are doing and has NFL guys at all 3 levels.

/that's all I got

I read, but what is their definition of a tight window ? Is it measured in distance from a defender ? Two defenders ? Is it measure by the extension of the WRs arms ? Tell us . Or is it just another eye test for reporters?

You didn’t like the eye test a week ago.

They could be good if they take a step forward. I said the same last year, because I think it has been a two year problem.

One drive we look like a well oiled machine and then 2 drives we can't get out of our way.

Typical stuff with a young QB and young WRs with a new collection of OL (some experienced, some not).

We were a disaster in 2019

We were average then solid in 2020

I expect to go from solid to very good in 2021

If we don't, we'll probably have issues, because they'll be relied on. Especially early.

Defense is not ever going to look like they did in the past.

If they do and win an NC I will be surprised. Defense is too regulated right now and high power O’s is what will win. My days arguing defensive stats are over unless rule changes go in favor of D in the future.

Let’s put it this way. The argument of how to measure has changed. The only stat I care about is how many losses vs wins does my team have.

So I wasn’t that far off in my evaluation, even by your Crimson Colored Gasses standards?

Agree - defense is all about red zone and turnovers/sacks/TFL now. If you don't put a good offense behind the chains you can't stop them.

And comparing any stat to even 5 years ago is pointless. It's not the same game.

I know we do this back and forth thing but you can't seriously think I'm a homer. That's almost insulting

I mean I don't know what your expectations are for our defense. If you agree with what I said then I guess yes, we aren't too far off.

I would like to see some steps taken in that direction. They won’t completely change some of the rules (targeting, e.g), but the defense is helpless sometimes under the current rules. It would be nice if they could find something in the middle. Ideally, a team should have to be well balanced to win championships. A good defense to have a chance to stifle a good offense, and right now, that’s not the case.

5 stars at every position but it really depends on Bryce Young.

The decision to just stop calling holding unless it's in the open field along with the way they call defensive PI makes it almost impossible to play pass defense.

You try and counter what I am saying , even later you agree with it partially. That is when the homer kicks in. Unlike me who easily calls out something about AU when they suck. Like Kevin Steeles D, Gus’s limited passing game , poor play calling etc. If Steele would have been hired I would have been the first to bitch. If the list of coaches that were interviewed matched what we heard from the press, I would have been the first to bitch. But I knew better. I guess that separates AU fans from Bama Fans. We call AU out all the time.
