How do y'all think he would do? I know McElwain seems to be excelling but Muschamp was a failure. Which coach does he most resemble?

The thing all USC heads are saying is that he would be an excellent recruiter and hire an excellent staff. Does that gel with what he's been doing as an assistant there?

Unproven, but he would recruit better than Spurrier and he has had several years to learn under Saban

Well, he has never been a HC so no one knows how he will be.

This.

His entire coachign career outside of 1 season consists of beign a saban subordinate. There is literally no way to know how good or bad he'd do as a head coach.

Hell no. I know you are being sarcastic, but I guarantee you that there is not one Carolina fan out there that would support this.

No idea. If hired, his ability to put together a good staff will be the first sign. I wish him all the best if he is the candidate of choice and it is his desire to pursue HC job.

Im not going to pump the guy up but there is a reason he has been at Bama this long. He is an excellent coordinator and recruiter. How that translates into a HC I have no idea. Someone is eventually going to give him a shot. Pat Dye wanted AU to hire him after Chizik. He has talked to other schools but either he is not a good interviewer or he wants too much. I don't think he is a homerun hire for Carolina but I think he would be a solid safe choice who could make Carolina a consistent winner.

When people brought up the nepotism of him being on staff, many posters on here pointed to his offensive numbers, which were decent. Why is it all of sudden a problem now?

Yeah but those things happen. I mean not every hire is going to be a good one. I thought we lost our minds when we hired Stallings

He's never been one. It's not easy and being at USC would not make it any easier. It would be a big risk. I would think your defense would be in the top half of the league each year, but who knows how Kirby would do running the whole show.

Because he is the reason we are where we are today. It is commonly known that SOS handed him the keys to the program 4 years ago when he was made recruiting coordinator and brought some of his friends on as assistants. We have tumbled every year since that moment.

I think it is just a toss up. I have a different pinion than some. A place like USC can be a career ender for someone like smart because they have never really been any good except when Spurrier was there and they still couldn't win the SEC.

Also, with Kirby, he has no head coaching experience. McElwain went out west to coach for a while before taking the job at Florida. Im not sure the SEC is the best place to take your training wheels off as a head coach. There is no flying under the radar here like you can do at a place like colorado. When you come to the SEC fans expect you to win, even in places like USC, Miss St. and Ole Mrs. Vandy is the only place you can snooze and get paid for a few years in this conference.

Other than Georgia, I can't think of a school in the SEC that is willing to settle for mediocrity year in and year out.
