Stephen Garcia was a once In a lifetime performance. Colt McCoy is not as good as Stidham and Colt was not known for his ability to run. The Texas game was closer than it should have been in large part due to the fact he was still playing with shulas players and the game plan was ultr conservative in large part to Greg’s inability to throw and it looked like Alabama was going to walk away with that one at the end of the half.

Colt graduated as the all-time wins leader among QBs and set the singles season record for completion percentage. I'm starting to think Alabama fans are not as smart as I originally gave y'all credit for being. Colt averaged 4.1 ypc in 2008 and 4.3 ypc in 2007. In 2009 he was a one man show and Texas was something like 80th in the country in sacks allowed per game which dragged his numbers down.

Coming from a guy who just made this statement:

quote:

Greg McElroy to this day might be the worst QB to ever win a National Title in the modern era of football.

I’m not sure I care.

It's pretty accurate, and it is why I said "might" because I don't have a recollection of every QB off the top of my head since 1990 which is when teams started to open it up throwing the ball on a national scale. He is up there in terms of inept QBs whose teams won titles in spite of them not because of them. His best year was barely better than Colt's worst (his RS SO year) and it was only better in terms of CMP% and TD/INT ratio (Colt still threw more TDs).

Unfortunately Mack built a straw house on the back of one man and Saban built a football TEAM. Meredith Gray could have won that night as long as she knew how to hand the ball off without tripping over herself.

Congrats on y'all's first win against us in 2009

Just off the top of my head - teams with worse QBs than McElroy (who was drafted a year later):

Colorado (1990)
Georgia Tech (1991)
Alabama (1992)
Michigan (1997)
Ohio State (2002)
LSU (2007)

Ironically enough, that’s Greg McElroy’s wife’s name. Seriously.

Thank you, we all had a great time in Pasadena that night. Your fans were great before the game, but worse than LSU fans after the game. Really funny to watch that unfold.

Colt was a good college q.v. no doubt. I still think stidham is better with a lesser supporting cast on offense.

Colorado (1990) I concede Darian Hagan, he was putrid
Georgia Tech (1991) You're thinking of the 1990 team that finished 2nd behind Colorado
Alabama (1992) Jay Barker was bad, y'all saw that first hand
Michigan (1997) Brian Griese is debatable, didn't have the total numbers but completed a higher % of his passes
Ohio State (2002) Already conceded Craig Krenzel earlier
LSU (2007) Matt Flynn is another debatable, he was asked to do more, believe he ran the ball 100 times that year.

All in all there are 3 guys you listed that are definitely flat out worse. I'd put Griese and Flynn on par with McElroy, all of them were pretty much game managers who could throw the ball when needed to at an above average level.

Also McElroy was drafted in 7th round and was out of the league in 3 years, that isn't anything to write home about.

Yeah it took all of two plays to see Alabama's line was going to completely maul their defense all day. Probably the most one-sided National Championship game I've ever seen with my own eyes.

Nebraska/Florida was worse, but that game was over when Lacy started hunting Teo on his runs early in the game

It's all good, wins 2 & 3 are coming soon.

Damn shame you guys are scared shitless to schedule us on the regular. Penn State has much larger balls than Texas.

A&M joined our division. Their balls are gigantic compared to the Shorthorns.

It depends on what you define as balls. They just wanted a new dad and found one so congrats on the new step child as well.

Look at our schedule, USC, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State etc... It takes two to tango, we can't force you to play a game.

Wasn't going for this, just googled Greg McElroy, wife was listed on wiki page as Meredith Gray and I just used her name to prove a point.
