Would not call Bateman terrible. He's not 2012 AJ McCarron, but we don't need him to be. I'd say Bateman is on track to be right around 2009 Greg McElroy.

2011 the score was 17-10 with 2 defensive scores and we had a great team that year.

G. Mac didn't light the world on fire in 2009.
Bateman was throwing to a walk on behind the second string oline and still made some plays. His pass to Robert Foster over Tony Brown was pretty spot on.

Just has to be ELECTRIC, i.e., make a bunch of plays, exactly like our 2011 D did. Score TDs and setup the offense in short fields.
The defense can be great, but if it does nothing more than constantly give your QB-less offense long fields, you still wont score much at all.

Exactly. Every first year starter we have had since JPW won a natty in his first year. Coker or Bateman will be fine handing the ball off 75% of plays.
